Our 4th, and best ever, vintage dance week, this time on the Queen Mary in Long Beach Harbor! Vintage dance instruction, evening themed events, and live authentic music. We hope to do it again summer of 2011.

Richard Powers


Richard is an internationally known vintage dance historian and teacher. On the faculty at Stanford University, he also directs a performing vintage dance group as well as consulting in dance history for the film industry. Creator of the first vintage dance week over 20 years ago in Cincinnati, he's bringing his unequaled experience and never-fail teaching style here to the Queen Mary.

Joan Walton
Joan has taught vintage dance workshops across the US, Australia and Europe. Her high-energy, focused teaching and theatrical choreographic style are truly delightful. She has performed all over the US, including the Smithsonian, and her vintage dance choreographies have been performed by many vintage and university dance companies. Joel Plys
Joel Plys, is one of the world's top swing dance teachers, combining a winning dance style with some of the most expert dance teaching skills to be found in any dance discipline. Joel travels around the world teaching swing, with a specialty in Balboa, an authentic dance originating in Southern California. He organizes a number of top swing dance workshops yearly. Marc Casslar


Marc Casslar, director and founder of the Vintage Dance Society, and a performing troupe, Polite Society, has been involved in a variety of historic dance forms since 1977, and Victorian and Ragtime dancing since 1984. Mr. Casslar has conducted hundreds of workshops and seminars, choreographed for stage and screen, and appeared in a variety of theatrical and film productions. He has performed throughout the United States and Japan. When not dancing Mr. Casslar can be found working as an environmental consultant at his consulting firm GeoQuest, Inc. or producing through his production company Specialty Productions, LLC.

Stan & Karen Isaacs
Stan and Karen are well-known vintage dance promotors and instructors in the Bay era, and have previously taught at our dance weeks.


Regina Whitcomb
Regina Whitcomb is an amazing performer/dancer. She sings beautifully, frequently appearing with her husband Ian, and teaches vintage dance as well. Regina will be joining our all-star list of vintage dance instructors this week, as well as organizing the Swap-n-Sell on Monday.

Music


Ian Whitcomb is a musician's musician. He's a California-based member of the 1960's British Rock invasion, past California State Music Librarian, and author of several books on music history. In his current musical incarnation he is a scholar and master purveyor of early music. At each of the balls during dance week, he and his "boys" (and gals) will be providing a potpourri of fabulous vintage dance music, reflecting the appropriate eras.
