ANCIENT OF DAYS

Who proves older? Or claims younger?
Tell Methuselah he spent but hours
Go, tell a babe its skin is rough!

Call Solomon a fool
O call Samson a weakling
Tell Moses he was too harsh!

Ah, merciful. Slow to anger!
Yes, when provoked
You wreath the rage of Nemesis, Lord!

Who feeds men's eyes with wonders great?
Whoi constructs things simple and comple?
Who heals, preserves, or revives?

He split the sea to make a dam
And Jacob crossed a dry valley!

He struck a rock. He split a rock
Forcing water out...torrents..."Drink!"

Who tore lions as men tear rags?
Who shut boastful beasts' mouth?
He loves us, see! And this to to show,
Forsook his son to redeem souls.

This blazing blood could bleach us clean.

Bleach us clean! Prepare our hearts
To learn to store and henceforth clinch
What Wisdom, Truth and Life do teach!

EDEN
I like to be in that place
Far from here; far, far away from here
Where things just go right.

In that place where good health abounds
No pain, no sickness.

Every day a child is born
Yet no one grows old
Or dies.

Birds sing sweetly on luxuriant trees
Orchards blossom so, so well
Fruits are ripe,
Ripe so well for man to eat.

I love to dwell in that place
Always.

 REST
Roses have their beds
Ants have their hills
Birds, their nests.

I have no rest

Do give your heart, my dear
Let my love dwell there,
Have some rest.

Then, my soul will rest.

I shall feel free.

Look! In the zest,
I must show the crest
Hung across your breast;
Let's soothe the chest.

SONG

My heart sings
Sweetly of a lass
Singular heiress to me

She sings for me her song,
She steals my heart away
I sing this chorus to the song:
"Ah! You steal my heart away."

All the time I sing
I sing gladly to my lass
My happy, happy heiress.

 PLEA

Quench not the flame of love
It melts us both; it straightens odds.

Extinguish not this flame
It burns us up; it's our passion blest.

Quench not the flame of love
Which great rivers can't quench.

Oh! Extinguish not this flame, I say
Pray, fan this flame with love the more.

COMPANIONSHIP

Bread and butter can be such jolly friends
Butter gums two slices
Reminding me of suchlike fondness.

See!
See the butterfly
Watch it dance round yonder flower.

Nectar is what the bee seeks, and
Nectar indeed it finds
The butterfly some pollen picks
Sweet pollination
Ah! Cross-pollination...

Fragrance
The flower's fragrance draws the butterfly still
Nearer, nearer
Untill on the lovely flower
The butterfly finally rests, yielding pollen
Meanwhile, the bee sucks deep Nature's floral juice.

So unto bread, sliced and buttered, this love is likened
And eager bee in fragrant nectar, once dusted is re-christened.
