As Area D-4 Governor for Founders District of Toastmasters International, I visit and learn from each of the six clubs in my Area. Each club is unique yet shares the qualities of the same friendliness, welcome, and encouragment to members, guests, and even to me. Toastmasters International operates with a reverse pyramid. The member is the most important person with the club under the member, supporting the member. Under the club, supporting the club, is the Area Governor. My job is to be of service to my six clubs, not to dictate to or mananage the clubs. Next down the line is the Division Governor who is of service to each Area Governor in the Division. We work together, in every way, to support (AGAIN) that all important person - the MEMBER.

Area D4's clubs are found in the Cities of Orange and Villa Park in Orange County California. Orange is best known as the home of Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), St. Joseph's Hospital, Chapman University, and UCI's Medical School and Hospital. The city enjoys the original traffic circle and Plaza in the middle of town and its historical buildings and antique shopping center.

Many movies are filmed in Orange as the city stands in for small town America with its historical section and quiet streets. Think of Tom Hanks in "That Thing You Do" and Martin Lawrence in "Big Mama's House!"

Villa Park was founded in 1962 and is the smallest city in Orange County in terms of population. Its 2.1 square miles are zoned for single-family residences on half-acre lots. Completely surrounded by the City of Orange, students attend the Orange Unified School District’s elementary through high schools. Villa Park is the home of Rockwell’s Café and Bakery, meeting place for Club 5639, Tongues-a-Flame

This means our clubs will achieve their own goals for growth at the rate of 1.75 CC/club and .5 AC/club (without getting too technical, these are easy minimums to hit!) The clubs will be at charter strength or better and will submit their paperwork on time.

It also means that the Area will grow by at least one new club during the year. If all goes well, I'm looking for three new clubs during this term, so I'm hopeful that our existing clubs will come through with their own goals as well.
