News
So far in the July, 2006 - June, 2007 term, the Area distinguished itself with 100 percent of all its club officers being promptly trained. We were one of only two such areas to reach this lofty, but really down-to-earth goal in August. Though didn't quite hit it in February, we did quite well, with four of our clubs going all the way to 100% trained.

One other very nice thing happened at Founders District Fall Conference: Area C-1 had the most registered attendees of any of Founders' 39 areas! Again, thanks and congratulations to all participants - I know you learned much from the day's events, and a feather, to boot!

Welcome to my new site!  (Notes from a novice!)

OKAY, GERRY, SERGIO, JIMMY - IT AIN'T THAT TOUGH!

1. I just have to keep following the "rules."
2. Like entering my user id and password.
3. Clicking on the "EDIT" button for each section.
4. Scrolling past a picture to the text box.
5. Typing something (like this) in the text box (while pushing the instructions ahead so I don't lose them until I'm done).
6. Clicking "Save Changes." Voila! My stuff is on my page.

Recent victory: Uploading the picture of then-International President, Dilip Abayasekara and me, taken at the TI International Convention in Reno, in August, 2005.

Latest victory: Updating the entire site for all that's going on now in Area C-1.

My Area, and Welcome To It!

As Area C-1 Governor for Founders District of Toastmasters International, it's not really right to call it "my" Area; Area C-1 is made up of its six clubs (now seven!) and their many members. It's "mine" only to the extent that I'm here to help its component clubs excel.

I know I can't do that alone, but I hope that good words, helpful suggestions, and deserved congratulations will help each member and club achieve their own goals, thus allowing "my" Area to shine.

So Just Where Is Area C-1?

It is located in parts of the cities of Orange and Garden Grove, in Orange County, California, This Southern California neighborhood is among the older established parts of Orange County, but along with signs of tradition (e.g., Olde Town Orange), there are many indicators of modernity (e.g., The Block shopping mall, and UCI Medical School).

To find out more about these clubs, click on the Toastmasters International link on the lower left side of this page, and just look for "find a club." Copy, then paste, and click on http://www.toastmasters.org/

Our newest club is "Netters" at TripleNet Properties in Santa Ana (Hutton Center) - click on it on the lower left for more info.

To find out more about our newest club - Power Presenters - now a-borning in Costa Mesa, call me at 714-315-9765, or Jennifer, at 949-244-7524.

  Spring Contest Plans!

The Fall Contest was a hoot, with a Spanish touch, with music and music.

The Spring Contest will be held on Saturday, 17 March, and our theme (of course!) is St. Patrick's day! Registration opens at 8AM, and the contest starting promptly at 9AM. Location is again at Crystal Cathedral, Family Life Center, Room 470. Admission is a mere $6.00.

Of course, the public is welcome, as are your friends and family! Everyone is welcome to share in the fun of a friendly contest!

C-1 IS HEADED FOR DISTINGUISHED!
In this early edition of this site, what else can I tell you about the Area? Well, it's bound for Distinguished Status for the year.

Unless I miss my guess, it will reach President's Distinguished status.

That status means it's clubs will achieve their own goals for growth at the rate of 1.75 CC/club and .5 AC/club (without getting too technical, these are easy minimums to hit!) The clubs will be at charter strength or better and will submit their paperwork on time.

It also means that the Area will grow by at least one new club during the year. If all goes well, I'm looking for three new clubs during this term, so I'm hopeful that our existing clubs will come through with their own goals as well.

What if you want to join a club, but....
You looked and looked, and still couldn't find a club that meets your needs?

I'll help you put a club together at your workplace or in your community! Just email or call me (gerflash@wwdb.org - - 714-315-9765), and we'll design one to let your imagination - and your career - take off and fly!

Final Thoughts
If you live or work in or around Orange or Garden Grove, please consider visiting any of "my" Area's clubs. They all provide a friendly, supportive atmosphere where you can grow and improve your own leadership and communications skills. That can only lead to advancements in your career at speeds that may otherwise be unattainable except in science fiction novels!

Some also have treats (I have a sweet tooth!)

I hope you will give Area C-1 clubs a try!
