Know The Rules

It's important to know how and why regulations are what they are; take the time to not only look up what the regs and guidelines are, but why they are what they are -- the history, if you will. This will always shed a light of understanding onto those legislative issues that will otherwise seem awkward. You may find that a little homework on the front side will delete the need for an interpretation letter on the back side. And always, if time permits, plug into the development stage of the legislation; the best way to ensure rules are the way you want them, is to provide your input.

A good federal search tool is located on the Government Printing Office page at:
http://www.gpoaccess.gov/cfr/index.html. By-the-way, there's a good listing specific to PPE on this TSSP website, located on the "See This" page.

At this location you can search by section number or title. For example:
If you search for "29 CFR 1910.108" you will find subpart H on Hazardous Materials, and visa versa.

A similar search tool is available for California regulations at the Legislative Counsel's page, located at:
http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html

For information on other states, try using "State Information's" shortcut list located at:
http://www.stateinformation.com

ANSI's Z10 (Health & Safety) Standard is here and although relatively new, it is here to stay. Over the next few years, you will be hearing more and more about the (currently) voluntary standard. Contact us, for a free article outlining Z10:2005.
