Z&R Traditions ![]() Kazoos, and Bubbles, and Red Wax Lips... Oh, My! DRESSING IN FULL REGALIA ~ The one and only true rule of the R.H.S. is to wear purple with a red hat. As far as different shades of purple... if it's purple to you... it must be purple! If you enjoy wearing satin gloves and feather boas, you go girl! If you are classic and tailored or glittery and gaudy... we have a place for you! We want everyone to feel welcome... and to step outside self-imposed boundaries. We are a Chapter of the Red Hat Society... hint, hint! We are working towards everyone feeling comfortable wearing their "perfect" red hat. And, we don't want to send anyone to the "gallows"... So, remember, there is a "perfect red hat" for everyone. Let's get creative and discover yours! DRESSING AU CONTRAIRE ~ Birthday suits (i.e. colors worn in reverse) are worn during your birthday month so that you may receive the attention you deserve on such an auspicious occasion. Red attire with a purple hat is appropriate. NAME TAGS ~ We pride ourselves on our Z&R Hat'itude and recollection of names. Although, we may "cheat" ever so slightly by looking at each other's nametags. It is important that you wear yours. Ladies who forget to wear their nametags to an event may be asked to lead a rousing chorus of "I'm A Little Teapot" before donating monetarily the amount needed to overcome a "guilty conscience" to Zinny. PINK HATTERS ~ For women under 50, it is suggested they wear lavender and a pink hat until their Chapter Red-uation when they finally turn the "Big 5-0." FLAMBOYANT DAME AWARD ~ Awarded annual at the CoQueens' Event for celebrating age with joy, flamboyance, and a "zesty flair" of Z&R Hat'itude. Past Recepients: HAT'ITUDE and FUNN'ITUDE ~ The proper "attitude" with a Hat! FUNN'ITUDE ~ We're having too much funn to be expected or ordinary... So, taking a lead from Zinny, Our Royal Keeper of the Funn Money, we have decided that all we want to do is have some funn! HATQUARTERS ~ The head office of the Red Hat Society in Fullerton, CA where our EQM and team works and plays. KAZOODLE ~ A large group of Red and Pink Hatters. KAZOOS, BUBBLES and RED WAX LIPS... oh my! ~ The kazoo is the official musical instrument of the Red Hat Society. Kazoos are an equal-opportunity instrument, since anyone who can hum can play one. They are also portable, affordable, and group concerts are easily arranged. Blowing of bubbles is fun for the inner child in all of us. They are blown at gatherings for celebration, in place of applause and just because we want to! Many R.H.S. Chapters have adopted the tradition of red wax lips. We have heard that when the Queen says, "Lips Ladies," she doesn't have to compete when she speaks. Hummmm! MASCOT ~ Our "official" mascot is "Zinny, Royal Keeper of the Funn Money." She is in charge of our Dollar Raffle, and is willing to accept "extra coins" during events. MEMBERS OF "THE BROAD" ~ "The Broad" is a take off on "The Board," a term way too stuffy for a Red Hat Chapter. We get together usually once a month. We laugh, plan fun things to do; and any member is welcome to join us. NETWORKING TOGETHER DIRECTORY ~ As we are all Royalty, we treat each other with courtesy and kindness. Royal ladies do not whine or complain; speak of aches and pains in the company of others; nor do they compete for business or donations during Chapter Events. Membership Directories are not to be used as "name lists" for "potential" clients. If you would like to be included, please pass the info onto Lady Chelle. ROYAL TITLES ~ Begun by EQM Sue Ellen Cooper decreeing that she was "Queen Mother" and then later on "Exalted Queen Mother." Just an interesting way to make us sound more royal. SCARLET SPARKLES ~ Created by our EQM to describe a special, magical, sparkley moment. A moment seen or heard by a Red or Pink Hatter that is an amazing, spontaneous, heartwarming coincidence involving Red Hatting. SHARING OF TRINKETS ~
Monthly table favors shall be given to those attending that month's event. It is not a requirement as a host... if you would like to have help from the "trinket fairies," please contact Lady Chelle. Additional favors may be shared with our table server(s) at events as a "thank you." SISTER CHAPTERS As part of the "Queens' Council" Chapter, we strongly encourage Sister Chapters to register and become "official." We are proud to be part of the Red Hat Society, and promote multi-chapter events of "registered chapters" only.
THE ROYAL WAVE, BRIM BRUSHING, and Our Z&R GREETING ~ The Royal Wave, which is the "official" R.H.S. greeting, is performed by cupping the hand, fingers together, and ever-so-gently swiveling the wrist back and forth in the direction of our adoring throngs (or other Red Hatters). We hatters love to hug, but with those wonderful big gaudy hats, it can be hard to do. So we brim brush! Reach out to hug your fellow hatter gently, only allowing your hat brims to touch. Air kissing or "A Hollywood Kiss" is a perfect accompaniment. The "Official" Z&R Greeting is to "Hold with your right and hug with your left." Finally... and Most Important ~ Give proper homage to your CoQueens. A treasury of golden bracelets or ruby rings may be presented to your CoQueens. ;-) wink! This is just an "inkling" of the funn we have! See your Membership Directory for all the latest and greatest... and let's have some funn! |
