Boulder Shih Tzu Rescue's Goals and Policies
Boulder Shih Tzu Rescue was formed in 1999 to help place any shih tzu in need of a permanent home. We accept relinquished shih tzu from owners who, for various reasons, can no longer keep their dogs, from shelters, from veterinary clinics, or from kind souls who stop to help stray dogs. In a sense, we are matchmakers. B.S.R. tries to get to know each dog's individual personality and habits in order to match them with the most suitable home possible. Our goal is to place each dog in a permanant and loving home so he or she will never have to re-experience the stress and uncertainty of losing all that is familiar to them. Anyone interested in adopting a shih tzu through B.S.R. must complete an adoption application. This lets us know what qualities you would like to see in your new dog and what amenities you are willing to and able to provide for him or her. Rescue homes must also agree to a homecheck before an adoption can take place. Each dog receives a general veterinary check up after they are surrendered to B.S.R. We will make sure that each dog is spayed or neutered, current on shots, tested for heartworm, and groomed. Rescue homes agree to reimburse us for veterinary, transportation, and general upkeep costs incurred by the dog they are adopting. This "adoption fee" usually ranges between $100.00 - $200.00 per dog. Puppies are on the higher end and older dogs, or those with special needs may be less than previously stated. Whenever possible, B.S.R. will provide the dog's medical records to the adoptive family. Adoption fees and donations are used in the maintenance of our group. We are a non-profit organization and all time and effort of our members is volunteered. Funds go towards such things as veterinary care and medical supplies, health and dietary supplies, housebreaking supplies, collars and leashes, grooming services and supplies, and transportation costs. All dogs surrendered to Boulder Shih Tzu Rescue become the property of B.S.R. We insure the privacy of both the surrendering and adoptive parties and will not divulge the identities of either. B.S.R. will do our best to gather as much information as we can about each dog and to honestly impart this to potential adoptees, however, we cannot guarantee the health or behavior of any dog adopted through our group. Each dog placed by B.S.R. requires a signed adoption contract between B.S.R. and the adoptive owner. There is often a long waiting period before a dog can be found for a person interested in adopting. The shih tzu is a popular breed and many people are interested in adopting through rescue.
