Photo above is Cari Anne Lawson and her FIRST PLACE Trophy from the Volunteer Invitaitonal Camero Drag Races hosted by Bandimere Speedway on 7 October 2008.
Thank you John Bandimere and the staff of Bandimere Speedway for your generosity to the volunteers. You are an example of what businesses should strive to be in Colorado.

Ok so here is the results from the 2008 Thunder Mountain Invitational Camero Races hosted by Bandimere Speedway for the Volunteers that helped out this summer.

Everyone had a chance to do TWO time trial runs and get a feel for the cars. Once the time trials were done, the elimination rounds started.

Round 1:

Michael Lawson beat out Troy with a RT of .272 to .434 and a ET of 14.770 to 14.647 with a total speed of 96.63MPH

Tal and Nathaniel Smith lost by .038 seconds to Gary with a RT .597 to .646 and an ET of 14.854 to 14.767 and a total speed of 96.71MPH

Cari Anne Lawson won hands down with a RT of .369 to Daryl's .811 with ETs a little closer with Cari Anne's at 14.861 to 14.891.

Shane Marquardt beat out my mother in law Delores by .126 to move into the second round. Shane's RT of .520 to .457 and his ET of 14.607 to 14.796 gave him the edge to win.

Alex Wage was lucky to beat out Dennis in the first round with a slower RT of .426 to the faster .305 but weight played in this race with Alex's ET of 14.617 to the slower 14.870. This gave the victory to Alex with a total win time of .132.

Angela Baker and her son Jordan Greeson moved to the second round with a Bye. They posted a RT of .809 and an ET of 14.803.

Round 2:

Michael Lawson lost to Gary in the second round by a total of .064 seconds. Michael's RT was faster at .431 tio Gary's .456 but the ETs is where again weight made the difference with Gary's 14.710 ti 14.799. At the end of the 1/4 mile, only .064 seconds was the factor.

Cri Anne Lawson again posted a GREAT RT with a .310 to Jim's .697. The ETs were a little closer at Cari's 14.600 to his 14.655 and the MPH were close at Cari's 97.99 to 97.67. Almost a half a second gave Cari Anne her second win of the night moving her into the semi finals.

Shane Marquardt lost to Scott with a total time of .459.

Anglea Baker and her son Jordan Geeson won against Alex Wage in a hard fought race. Alex's faster ET of 14.696 to their 14.820 was not enought to overcome her better RT of .388.

Round 3 (SEMI FINALS):

Cari Anne keeps it consitant with an RT of .321 to Gary's .470 and she got the best of him with the faster ET of 14.598 to his 14.899 to take the win and move into the FINALS!

Angela Baker and her son Jordan Greeson lost to a superior RT of .361 to her .675 and a faster ET of 14.445 to her 14.620 allowing Scott to move into the FINALS.

Round 4 (THE FINALS):

Cari Anne Lawson was late getting off the line with a .332 RT as Scott posted his best RT of the night with a smashing .224. At the 60 foot mark, somehow Cari Anne pulls ahead by .073 seconds. Passing through the 1/8 mile mark she extended her lead by .069 seconds to .142 seconds. As the 1,000 foot mark passed by, Cari Anne was in a commanding lead as she added another 4 thousandths of a second to her lead to make it a total of .146 second now. As the 1/4 mile finish line passed under the front end of the Cameros and the tires passed the line, Cari Anne had extended her lead to .181 seconds. However, remembering back to the start of the drag race when Cari Anne was behind by .108 seconds off the line, her .181 lead was now squashed to 73 HUNDREDTH of a second or .073 and still giving her the WIN. This topped her second place win last year.

Fastest Reaction Time (RT) of the night was .224 seconds set by Scott in the FINAL ROUND
Second Fasted RT was .272 set by Michael Lawson in the FIRST ROUND.

Fastest Elapsed Time (ET) of the night was 14.445 again set by Scott in the SEMI FINAL ROUND
Second Fastest ET was 14.482 set by Cari Anne Lawson in the FINAL ROUND

Fastest MPH was 98.42 yet again set by Scott in the SEMI FINAL ROUND
Second fastest MPH was 98.41 set by Cari Anne in the FINAL ROUND

Captain Lawson steps down after 8 years as the commander.

As of 1845 21 August 2008 I have stepped down as the commander of Foothills Cadet Squadron in Lakewood.

It was a good ride and I enjoyed every minute of my time at Foothills and in CAP. I am stepping down because of our recent purchase of 80 acres down south and because of our desire to grow our goat herd and enter into the commercial meat and dairy side of the industry now. We are unable to get any bigger on our current property in Golden and land prices in the area are WAY TOO MUCH to make a profitable start in this area.
Thanks you for everything and I am just a phone call away for some of you.

Sgt Michael Lawson, USMC med ret 1995

JUST IN FROM COLORADO WING ENCAMPMENT

Three of Foothills’ Cadets spent the last week at the Colorado Wing (COWG) Encampment held at the US Air Force Academy (USAFA) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. From the sounds of it all went well and all three had fun. Cadets Wage, Goepfert and Greeson were the Cadets in attendance this year.

Because of the weekly physical training (PT) that Foothills has been doing for the past 9 months, C/Chief Master Sergeant (C/CMSgt) Wage, a Sophomore at Bear Creek said: “It felt like a 5th grade PE class” to him.

C/CMSgt Wage was selected to be the Guide On Bearer for his Flight. This put him as the head cadet over all others that were attending encampment for the first time along with him. This position carries a lot of responsibility with it and has a tremendous amount of stress that encompasses it. While holding duties as the Guide On, C/CMSgt Wage said: “I was super hard on my flight to make sure their rooms were P.E.R.F.E.C.T and it obviously paid off”. His flight was awarded the top honors with receiving the Academic Excellence AND Best Barracks Awards for Encampment 2008 during the Pass and Review.

Some of the other activities included flying the simulators that the actual USAFA Cadets get to fly as part of their flight training for the Air Force; room inspections, eating at the chow hall while at attention and of course the PT.

On Friday, 20 June 2008 the cadets at the COWG Encampment held their Dining Out. This is a time for everyone to come together, reflect on what they have done and celebrate their accomplishments while at Encampment. C/CMSgt Wage put his mom’s skills to shame by saying that the food at the Dining Out as he said was: “Some of the best food I've ever had too”.

"All in all, it was pretty fun" C/CMSgt Wage said.

Civil Air Patrol is a volunteer, non-profit organization operating as an auxiliary of the United States Air Force and performs "Missions For America" with approximately 64,000 members nationwide.

Civil Air Patrol is responsible for 95% of all inland search and rescue missions in the United States tasked by the AFRCS in Virginia.

Our three primary missions are "Emergency Services", "Cadet Programs" and "Aerospace Education".

Federal, state and local authorities rely on CAP's volunteer pilots and ground personnel to provide search and rescue assistance, disaster relief, homeland security, counter-drug operations and cadet training.

Since 1941, CAP has provided America’s youth with exciting and challenging opportunities through the Cadet Programs. Tens of thousands of young people, ages 12-18 have taken advantage of this program and have become members of CAP, the civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force.

Foothills Cadet Squadron meets at the Elmar E. Fryar building (US Army Reserve Building) on the Denver Federal Center in Lakewood at 6th and Kipling. Our meetings are on Thursdays from 6:30-9:00pm..

Currently Foothills has 19 members. Eight of these are senior members (Officers) and 11 are cadets. Of the 19 members, we have 10 active cadets and 7 active senior Members.
Our goal for the 2008 year is to have 6 Senior Members (Officers) and 25 ACTIVE cadets.
Parents, we are not a recruiting tool for the military nor do I or any of my staff try to "brain wash" the child into military service. Our purpose in this program is to instill in the leaders of tomorrow the skill needed to lead no matter where they choose to go. Currently, Foothills cadets are serving with:
Denver Police Department
Denver Fire
One in the US Air Force (enlisted)
and yet some never go off to college or the military.
We are here to teach not recruit.

History and Goals of CAP
Civil Air Patrol (CAP) was established 1 December 1941 and is a private, nonprofit corporation of a benevolent character, incorporated by the United States Congress on 1 July 1946 (36 USC 40301-40307). It functions in accordance with its Constitution and Bylaws, regulations, and other directives approved by the National Board and National Executive Committee (NEC) and issued by the Executive Director.

The objects and purposes of CAP, as contained in Article VI of its Constitution, are to:
1) Provide an organization to encourage and aid American citizens in the contribution of their efforts, services, and resources in the development of aviation and in the maintenance of aerospace supremacy.

2)Encourage and develop by example the voluntary contribution of private citizens to the public welfare.

3)Provide aviation and aerospace education and training especially to its senior and cadet members.

4)Encourage and foster civil aviation in local communities.

5)Provide an organization of private citizens with adequate facilities to assist in meeting local and national emergencies.

In 1943 CAP began as an auxiliary of the Army Air Corps and later continued with the Army Air Force. The Congress codified that status declaring CAP as the official Auxiliary of the newly created United States Air Force on 26 May 1948 by a law frequently referred to as the CAP Supply Bill (10 USC 9441). CAP and its members are an instrumentality of the United States for the purpose of civil liability while performing authorized missions for the U.S. Air Force (P.L. 96-342, 8 September 1980, amending 10 USC 9441).

The Cadet Program’s Mission & Goals. The mission of the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program is to provide the youth of our nation with a quality program that enhances their leadership skills through an interest in aviation, and simultaneously provide service to the United States Air Force and the local community.

Opportunities in the Cadet Program. The Cadet Program permits every cadet to:
1) Develop self-discipline, teamwork, and confidence through the study and practice of leadership in an Air Force (Marine Corps @ Foothills) environment;

2) Develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for understanding aerospace principles and the total impact of aerospace power upon society;

3) Participate in a variety of special activities and programs;

4) Develop a personal ethical foundation and an understanding of the moral issues of our time through discussion and debate; and

5) Become physically fit and develop a lifelong habit of regular exercise.

System of Achievements. Through study and performance, cadets work through a series of achievements and milestone awards. As cadets progress, they advance in grade, increase the scope of their leadership responsibilities, earn awards, and become eligible for nationally-sponsored special activities and scholarships.
