The fastest growing sport in the U.S. has finally reached northern Denver. Representing Adams12 Five-Star School District, Mountain Range High School (Opened: Fall, '06) will add lacrosse to the CHSAA athletic lineup. This will be the first time lacrosse has been offered to students of Adams12 in the Thornton, Broomfield, Northglenn, Westminster, and Federal Heights areas.

Plans are in full swing as the coaching staff prepares to field a team of 40 boys and a team of 40 girls for the up-coming Spring, 2007 season
(split into Varsity and Junior Varsity teams).

As a district team all five high schools shall be represented. Northglenn, Thornton, Legacy, Horizon, and Mountain Range will compete as one unit against some of the well-run, long-established teams in the Metro area.

Lacrosse, a full-contact sport, is the oldest and most enduring game played in North America. Originating from the Native-American tribes, roots of the sport have been documented as far back as 600 years. Lacrosse is a game that requires speed, agility, team-work, and endurance. It combines the fast-paced action of basketball, excitement of ice hockey, and field-sense of soccer to create a unique game for players and spectators alike. Anyone can play lacrosse, regardless of size or stature. The game requires and rewards coordination and agility, not brawn. Quickness and speed are two highly prized qualities in this exhilarting game. Sprints up and down the field with abrupt starts and stops, precision passes and dodges are routine in men's and women's lacrosse.
