What are Parliamentary Rules?        Parliamentary rules are the actual rules of the game of democracy. Their purpose is to expedite business, to maintain order, to ensure justice, to provide equal treatment for all members, and to help an organization to accomplish the purpose for which it was formed. Let the Colorado Omega Gaveliers show you how to do so.

* The basic principles of Parliamentary Law are:

* Courtesy and just for all

* Consideration of one subject at a time

* The minority must be heard

* The rights of absentees must be protected

* The will of the majority must prevail

The Colorado Omega Gavliers  , chartered in 1982, is a unit of the Colorado Association of Parliamentarians ("CAP") of the National Association of Parliamentarians ("NAP"). The Colorado Omega Gaveliers' purpose is to discuss, research, teach, practice, and exchange information in the field of parliamentary procedure, to study advanced parliamentary procedure, and to encourage members to take the examination for registration.

At its monthly meetings, you can work with all levels of members. This unit meets on the third Monday evening of each month from September through May with the exception of December (no meeting) and January (the second Monday). Meetings are held at the Colorado Nurses' Association. Some of the topics covered are:

  • Education of Parliamentary Law

  • Main and Ranking Motions
