CANTON EMS CADETS

The Canton Fire Cadets are an organiztion made of of teens between the ages of 14-17. The program is designed to give a cadet an experience and a tool to gain knowledge into the world of firefighting. The organization has been in effect since 1981, where many cadets have joined the cadet program and moved on to the Canton Fire Department. The Canton Fire Cadets meet every Tuesday night for meetings at the Collinsville Station at 7 pm. Although at times it is hard and exhausting work, but when all is said and done there are no complaints to be heard, only exciting stories. To join, just give us an e-mail or stop down.

It's 2pm in the afternoon, and you're sitting in the cool autumn air, when suddenly your pager beeps and the air sirens roar to life. The dispatcher announces a fully involved structure fire. You race to the station, donning your fire gear with other fire/EMS personnel. You jump into the engine as it drives away, siren wailing and lights brilliantly flashing leading the way to the blazing inferno. You're reading about a member of one of the finest organizations in the Town of Canton. This brave and courageous hero is a member of the Canton Fire Cadets. Upon arrival on scene, you quickly establish a hydrant connection to give firefighters the life-saving water they need to put this raging fire to rest. You then assist the ladder crew by setting up ladders for the ventilation crew. When you finally return to the station, a new feeling comes over you. Instead of urgency or fatigue, it's one of fearless self-satisfaction knowing you just saved a life or that you just saved someone's house. This is what the Canton Fire Cadet program is all about!!
