Welcome to the website of the Housatonic Detachment of the Marine Corps League

Housatonic Detachment # 1129 The Marine Corps League was founded by Major General Commandant, John A. Lejeune, in 1923 and chartered by an Act of Congress on August 4, 1937. Its membership of nearly 75,000 is comprised of honorably discharged Marine Veterans, Active Duty, Retired and Reserve Marines and Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Corpsmen with 90 days of service or more. It includes officer, enlisted, male and female members.

The Housatonic Detachment was chartered March 17, 2003. We are fortunate to have members from many eras and Marines that held ranks from Private to Lieutenant Colonel. Cold War era Marines and Combat Marines that served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm and Enduring Freedom. Needless to say, any gathering of our members results in many “sea stories”. You will hear stories about boot camp, hitting the beach on Iwo Jima, flying a CH46 in Iraq, what it was like to be a Grunt in Vietnam and even stories about being among the first women in the newly formed Women Marine Reserves in WWII.

Marine Golf Tournament
The Housatonic Detachment will be hosting a Golf Tournament on Monday, 28 September 2009. It will be held at Whitney Farms Golf Course in Monroe, CT. The tournament is to raise money for the charitable projects of the detachment such as Marines Helping Marines, scholarships for the children and grandchildren of Marines, Packages for the Troops and other good causes. Installation
We had our Intallation of our 2009 Staff at our January 12th meeting. We also gave out our 2008 Awards. We wish all on our 2009 Staff good luck and we know they will do a great job.

Congratulations to Lou Bogash who was inducted into the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame at dinner held at Mohegan Sun on November 28th.

Congratulations to Jim Alexander!
At the Annual Awards Dinner of the Greater Bridgeport Old-Timers Athletic Association, Jim was presented with the George Popp Man of the Year Award. Jim is Housatonic’s Senior Vice Commandant and also Adjutant of the Department of Connecticut MCL. He is very involved in community affairs and will be the next president of the Greater Bridgeport Old-Timers Athletic Association.
