2008 NE Division Scholorship issued

Michael Burke, a graduate of Westfield High School and a student a Westfield State College (WSC), accepts a scholarship check for $1000 from New England Division, Marine Corps League (MCL), Vice Commandant Richard Gore at Monday’s meeting of Westfield River Valley Detachment 141, MCL, of which he is a member. Burke served with the Second Marine Division Band at Camp Lejeune, N. C. and was later deployed to Al Ramadi, Iraq, to take part in security operations. He is Principle Honor Player in the WSC Wind Symphony, sings in the Chorale, is a player in the Big Band and new PEP Band. Military awards include National Defense Medal, Global Ward on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. He is a senior at WSC and was also awarded a Detachment 141 Scholarship and a MCL State Department scholarship. (Photo By Matt Knas)
