|Ridgefield Detachment Marine Corps League|
|Welcome to the Ridgefield Detachment of the Marine Corps League!†
We preserve the traditions and promote the interests of the United States Marine Corps. We strive to band those who are now serving in the United States Marine Corps and those who have been honorably discharged from the Marine Corps together in fellowship that they may effectively promote the ideals of American freedom and democracy. Our meetings are held monthly on the third Wednesday at 7pm. We also have a social gathering most Friday nights.
|Activities In addition to the monthly meetings and community events, the detachment has activities throughout the year including:
Ridgefield Detachment Marine Corps League Col. Richard E. Romine Leadership Award.
A scholarship is awarded to a deserving Ridgefield High School senior who best meets the detachment's criteria for this award, honoring the distinguished character, service and memory of detachment member Colonel Dick Romine.
The Marine Corps League Heritage Award
The Heritage Award scholarship was established to provide educational financial assistance to the children of all members of the League. To be eligible for the award, the child must be a high school graduate who will continue their education as a student at a college, a vocational school or one who is entering active duty in the military. This scholarship is available for those who live in Ridgefield or if they live in another town.
Memorial Day Parade
The detachment proudly marches with Ridgefield's VFW and American Legion contingents in the annual Memorial Day parade.
Veterans Day Observation
The Veteranís Day Ceremony is held each year on November 11th at The Ridgefield Community Center, located in Veteranís Park. The ceremony commences precisely at 11:00 a.m. It concludes with a wreath-laying at the Veterans Memorial which is located at the base of the flag pole and is intended to honor and thank all who served in the United States Armed Forces.
East Ridge Middle School has a Veteranís Day program and all veterans are welcome to attend. This event is a chance to interact with the community. The kids also put on a Veteranís Day program that is very well done.
The high school history department sponsors a Veteranís Day program in which veterans are asked to attend history classes during the day and speak to the class about their military service.
Toys for Tots
This traditional Marine Corps Reserve community service has nearly grown beyond our dedicated volunteers' ability to service the gift retrieval and distribution. Each year the League collects and distributes nearly 20,000 toys to Ridgefield and surrounding communities. We appreciate the charity of our local businesses and community, which allows us to answer the call of those less fortunate.
I WANT YOU! for the Ridgefield Marine Corps League
The Marine Corps League perpetuates the traditions and spirit of ALL MARINES who proudly wear or who have worn the EAGLE, GLOBE and ANCHOR.
