From the Chairman
The 2007 Induction Class of the Suffield Athletic Hall of Fame is a diverse group of four talented individuals and the fourth team to be enshrined. Their careers span over 35 years of Suffield athletic history. As you hear their qualifications, it will be clear why they have earned the Hall of Fame designation. I’m very proud of, and thankful to, the 22 people of the Hall of Fame Committee who volunteer their time and talent to organize this event. Operating on a philosophy of maximum inclusion, we start the process by asking the public to nominate individuals or teams who meet certain basic requirements:
• have a clearly defined athletic link to Suffield
• be out of high school at least 5 years
• currently or have been involved in competitive athletics as a player, coach, working professional, and/or volunteer
• have made a significant recognizable positive impact in his/her field and/or level of participation
• have displayed integrity and good character
Since inception, we’ve received almost 180 nominations, which identified 118 unique candidates for admission. The Selection Sub-committee narrowed the candidate list down to 10 finalists that were voted upon by the full Committee. From this group, the five inductees were elected by a two-thirds majority of those present and voting.
As you might imagine, it was a difficult task to establish the group of finalists from so many deserving candidates. Those not selected for the Hall of Fame this year are held on file and will be automatically considered when the next election is held.
Beyond the work of the Selection Sub-committee, I want to recognize and thank the Dinner, Fundraising, and Publicity Sub-committees for their hard work. Also, the annual golf tournament, chaired by Fran Aniello, again proved to be a fun and successful event.
