President's Comments
Dear Fellow Lions,
I am writing for our King Lion this month. His company is under new ownership and his new job responsibilities are a handful leaving him little time for anything else.

This is a busy time for District 22 ... The March Winter Social in Felton is almost upon us, followed by the District Bowling Tournament, the Leader Dog Program in our neck of the woods and then planning for the Multiple District Convention in May. If you plan to attend any of these functions details will be announced at our meetings. Lions all across the state are as busy as usual.

We need your thoughts and ideas about what to do for State Lions Day March 20th. Last year we attempted to repair and paint a neighbor's handicap ramp. Rain and bad weather interfered with our plans but we did rally together and get it done before Spring's end. One thought that I have for this year would be to work as a group with Habitat for Humanity on one of their Middletown projects. When Brian Cunningham spoke at our October meeting, he said this could be a possibility if given enough notice. Please bring, with you any thoughts and ideas you may have. We should be extremely proud of ourselves, all the fund raising we did over the summer and fall is being used for community needs.

As Lions we are available to assist the needy with glasses. We have surpassed the number of eye exams and eyeglasses requested and granted last year with five months still left in our Lion's year. Our preschool screenings are on target. Thanks to my volunteers for all the love and patience they have invested in these children. Lion Dennis has collected 704 pairs of eyeglasses since September.

Time to think about our Humanitarian Award, do you know of someone in our area who merits receiving this award? As Lions our motto is "To Serve." We are doing just that.

Yours in Lionism.
Lion Carolyn, Secretary

"WE SERVE"

Local Service:

Money for our community service is raised by various means. We make homemade crab cakes and sell them from our mobile trailer with other food sales. We sell Car Raffle tickets, sponsor Pig Roasts and have other types of fund raisers to help in our service to the community.

We provide assistance to those in the community who find they are in need of clothing, fuel oil, or other necessities.

We provide scholarships for graduating seniors of Middletown High School and the soon to be Appoquinimick High School.

We provide eye exams and glasses to members of the MOT(Middletown-Odessa-Townsend) community that cannot afford to purchase them.

We support the activities of many other service clubs and organizations in the MOT community.

Service To All:

In addition to fulfilling our primary objective of serving the local community, the efforts the Middletown Lions put forth allow the Club to serve our fellow man on a Statewide, National or Worldwide basis.

Through Lions Clubs International we contribute to the many assistance programs that aid victims of disaster in the United States and throughout the world.

Through the Multiple District 22 we contribute to the Lions Low Vision Research Center at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Through District 22-D we contribute to the Delaware Lions Foundation that provides matching grants to clubs throughout 22-D to support projects that would normally be beyond the ability of individual clubs to fund.

We participate in the Blue-Gold Football game that benefits the mentally challenged in the state.

 Why Lions?

Who...

The club was chartered in 1947.

Middletown Lions Club's members are men and women who live and or work in the Middletown, Odessa, and Townsend area.

The Members join the club to serve their community.

Why...

The club's success lies in the principle that many hands make the task easier.

By working together as a team the members are able to perform services to the community that would not be possible as individuals.

The members of the club contribute their varied talents and skills to the common cause of community service.

When...

Public dinner meetings are held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month from September through June at the North Star Diner at 6:30 PM.

Board meetings are held each month after the 1st Regular Meeting.

Service and fund raising activities occur throughout the year.
