"WE SERVE"

Local Service:

Money for our community service is raised by various means. We make homemade crab cakes and sell them from our mobile trailer with other food sales. We sell Car Raffle tickets, sponsor Pig Roasts and have other types of fund raisers to help in our service to the community.

We provide assistance to those in the community who find they are in need of clothing, fuel oil, or other necessities.

We provide scholarships for graduating seniors of Middletown High School and the soon to be Appoquinimick High School.

We provide eye exams and glasses to members of the MOT(Middletown-Odessa-Townsend) community that cannot afford to purchase them.

We support the activities of many other service clubs and organizations in the MOT community.

  Why Lions?

Who...

The club was chartered in 1947.

Middletown Lions Club's members are men and women who live and or work in the Middletown, Odessa, and Townsend area.

The Members join the club to serve their community.

Why...

The club's success lies in the principle that many hands make the task easier.

By working together as a team the members are able to perform services to the community that would not be possible as individuals.

The members of the club contribute their varied talents and skills to the common cause of community service.

When...

Public dinner meetings are held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month from September through June at the Middletown Family Diner at 6:30 PM.

Board meetings are held the first Monday of each month.

Service and fund raising activities occur throughout the year.

Service To All:

In addition to fulfilling our primary objective of serving the local community, the efforts the Middletown Lions put forth allow the Club to serve our fellow man on a Statewide, National or Worldwide basis.

Through Lions Clubs International we contribute to the many assistance programs that aid victims of disaster in the United States and throughout the world.

Through the Multiple District 22 we contribute to the Lions Low Vision Research Center at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Through District 22-D we contribute to the Delaware Lions Foundation that provides matching grants to clubs throughout 22-D to support projects that would normally be beyond the ability of individual clubs to fund.

We participate in the Blue-Gold Football game that benefits the mentally challenged in the state.

Lions Club International

The Middletown Lions Club is one component of an international service organization, Lions Clubs International. The headquarters of this organization is in Chicago, Illinois, USA. It was founded in 1917 by Chicago businessman Melvin Jones.

Lions Club International is the largest service club organization in the world. with over 1.4 million members, in 44,800 clubs in 188 countries and geographic areas. These clubs are organized into Districts, Regions, and Zones. The Middletown Lions Club is part of District 22-D, Region 1, Zone 3.

In 1925, Helen Keller addressed the Lions International Convention in Cedar Point, Ohio, USA. She challenged Lions to become "Knights of the Blind in the crusade against darkness." From this time, Lions clubs have been actively involved in service to the visually impaired and the blind.

Through our District and Lions Clubs International "We Serve" the community and the world with our fund raising efforts. These are a few of those efforts.
