PARENT TEACHER FELLOWSHIP REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Volunteering for this position cancels your development fee. By committing to this position, there is an expectation that the responsibilities will be fulfilled. The duties of the PTF Representative are as follows:
    • Celebrate your homeroom teacher’s birthday and Teacher Appreciation Week
    • Become a member of the PTF (payment of dues) and attend the monthly PTF meetings
    • Recruit volunteers for, as well as assist with, upcoming PTF functions

    • Thanks to "Call-Em-All," PTF reps no longer need to prepare an Emergency or Class Phone Chain

    Celebrate Homeroom Teacher’s Birthday
We like to celebrate our Teacher’s birthday and make it a special time for them. We ask that you inform the student’s about your teacher’s birthday and organize something to surprise them or help them celebrate their special day. Some suggestions include a group card, a class present, a cake or any fun ideas you might come up with. Remember, this can be from the heart and it doesn’t have to be something purchased. In late September you will receive the date of your teacher’s birthday and a ‘teacher information sheet’ which gives you insight into their likes, for instance, favorite restaurant, favorite color, etc… It is suggested for summer birthdays that you celebrate them at the end of the year or as a ‘half birthday,’ meaning 6 months before their birthday.

    Teacher Appreciation Week
Please enlist the help of other parents in the classroom to do something special for your teachers. Share the blessing of thanking and praising your child’s teacher for all he/she does all year! What a great opportunity for everyone to get involved.
This is a special time for each and every student in each and every class to show the teachers just how much we appreciate all they do throughout the year. Please make sure that all parents/students are aware of this special week! Be as creative as you like! PTF Representatives all have a “fact” sheet about the special likes of the teacher they represent. Some ideas are:
    * Special cards written/drawn from the children (you can send home a note asking for the children to do this, or you can ask the teacher to have a 30-minute period to work with the children “in secret” in the classroom)
    * Have student’s take turns bringing a special morning drink or a breakfast treat each morning.
    * Make him/her a special lunch, or bring a special snack.
    * Bring flowers, a special bookmark, or a gift certificate to a favorite store.
    * Offer to cover their recess duty – parents can each offer to take a day, ask if you can help in the classroom with some filing, organizing or other housekeeping.
    * Remember, this is gift should come from the heart so it doesn’t need a monetary value – a thank you in any shape or form is always appreciated by the teachers.

    Attending Monthly Meetings
PTF meetings are held the first Monday of every month, September through June. This is where old business, new business and all PTF matters are discussed. The meetings are informal and open to any parents; however only PTF members are permitted to vote on issues. We need the PTF Representatives to attend these meetings so they can inform the student families and teachers. The PTF Reps are really the mouthpieces for PTF so your communication role is vital to our success in meeting our mission.
NOTE: Meeting minutes are provided to each PTF Representative (you do not need to write your own minutes) and it is your responsibility to distribute the minutes to your Teacher and each student. We will provide you with fliers for special events that you may post in your classroom – for instance, the Joe Corbi pizza fundraiser and the Harvest Party (elementary only). E-mail is the most immediate and direct method to receive meeting minutes so we strongly urge you to give this information to the PTF Secretary.

    Recruit Volunteers
We need your help to find volunteers for different events and these volunteers would receive development hours for the time they help. As a PTF Rep we know you are busy and we don’t expect you to help with all the events so we need you to help spread the word in your class about what is coming up and where we need help.
