"Free Yoga Workshops for All Stars"
Hi Quilting Pals! Thanks so much for your interest in my upcoming free workshops "Yoga for Health and Harmony." I'm really looking forward to introducing you to (or in some cases stimulating your memory about) the ways yoga can help relieve stress, easy chronic pain and move your body back toward its natually balanced self.
Here's the scoop:
Workshop dates and times:
10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, May 6, 13 and 20 at First Chrisitian Church, where we hold our guild meetings.
What to wear:
Loose, comfortable clothing -- elastic waist bands are great, long or capris-style pants (knits or yoga pants work well), and layered tops. I suggest a sleeveless knit top with a short or long-sleeved t-shirt over it. You also might want to bring a jacket to keep toasty during relaxation. Socks also might be in order if you get cold tootsies.
What to bring:
2 bed-size pillows you won't mind putting on the floor, 2 large blankets, a yoga mat if you have one --or bring a large beach towel-- two small hand towels. (What does all this have to do with yoga??? You'll be surprised. Pleasantly, I hope.)
What will we do?? Will I have to get on the floor??
The answer to the second question is "Not if you choose not to." All the yoga we will do can be done in chairs. And everyone will start each class seated. Anyone, any age and condition can do yoga -- I've even seen a yoga therapist work with a nearly paralyzed client in her bed! And if you want to do some yoga in your bed, I'll show you how.
The two most important aspects of any yoga practice are breathing and relaxing. No kidding. Each class will include breathing, gentle movements and relaxation. Pretzel poses are for "sweet young things in spandex." I won't be wearing spandex, but you can wear yours if you want to. Although this is a series of classes that builds upon each other, even if you can't make them all, come when you can. (You can still get the handouts and pick up tips.)
One more thing. The Tuesday classes are just for the All Stars but you may bring a friend. Also, I've offered the church's members an opportunity to take this workshop on Thursdays (May 8,15 and 23) but don't know if I'll get any takers. If so, and you can't make it on Tuesdays, you're welcome to come to the Thursday classes (or both Tuesdays and Thursdays). But again, the Thursday classes may not be a go. I probably won't know until next week. So to start, plan to come next Tuesday, May 6. Please register by sending me an email jamiestarbuck@hotmail.com or calling me at 962-0800. That helps with planning.
Now, pull on your sweats, pack up your humor and come ready to rumble (we'll be making a lot of noise in class!)
I'm really excited about this and appreciate your willingness to be my test class. thanks.
And as the yogis say Namaste. j.
