Welcome to APNEF                         

The Association of Practical Nurse Educators of Florida (APNEF) is a statewide organization of registered nurses who teach in practical nursing programs and others interested in practical nursing education.

APNEF is a non-profit professional organization whose purpose is to improve the quality of practical nursing education in the state of Florida. Other functions of APNEF include networking with other instructors and updating members on issues in the state of Florida affecting nurses and nursing education.

The objectives of APNEF as stated in the by-laws:

  1. Promote the professional development of its members through presentation of continuing education workshops and seminars specifically designed to enhance the effectivenss of practical nurse educators
  2. Serve as a vehicle to disseminate pertinent information and issues of concern relating to practical nursing education
  3. Provide opportunity for the effective exchange of information, materials and ideas through the sharing of educational resources and clinical expertise of members
  4. Foster good interpersonal relationships with related professional, educational, and health care organizations
  5. Participate in and recommend action on local, state, national issues relating to practical nursing education and nursing practice

To assist in accomplishing the purposes of the APNEF organization, officers and board members (the executive board) are elected by the membership each year:

Board of Nursing News 

Mr. Joe Baker, Jr, has been named the Executive Director for the Florida Board of Nursing. His duties will include the planning, organizing, and coordinating of work related to the licensure of nurses, regulation of nursing practice and other functions of the FBON.

Other Board news:

There is a listing of institutions offering remediation courses for those applicants who have failed to pass the NCLEX within 3 attempts. Please suggest this to any of your former students who might be in need of such a course.


New CE Rules: All Florida-licensed nurses are now in a 24-month renewal period and must complete 24 hours each renewal period. Two hours on Prevention of Medical Errors is required; HIV/AIDS is now a one-time 1 hour requirement and Domestic Violence is now a 2 hour requirement every third renewal.


If you are a nurse in another state or country, please contact the Florida Board of Nursing for information about licensure.

Nursing Education News

Sad News
Fara Amsalem, coordinator of health programs at Lorenzo Walker Institute in East Naples, was killed October 2, 2010. She was also secretary for APNEF. Keep her family in your prayers.

May 6-12 is designated as National Nurses Week. Celebrate your profession and your colleagues.

 

APNEF Meetings


The 2010 fall meeting and workshop will be held November 4 and 5, 2010, at the Embassy Suites in Altamonte Springs. Registration applications for will be mailed to each school of practical nursing. As always, contact hours for CEs will be offered and there will be a separate room for vendors adjacent to the meeting room.
The Executive Board of APNEF will be meeting during May 2010 as well as the Wednesday prior to the workshop in November 2010 at 7 p.m.
