Hydrogen Peroxide Tips
Remove bloodstains from clothing by blotting stain with 3% hydrogen peroxide, then rinse promptly with cold water to avoid bleaching of the fabric. Also, to remove yellowing from lace curtains or tablecloths, fill a sink with cold water and add 2 cups of 3% hydrogen peroxide. Soak for at least an hour, rinse in cold water and air dry.
Flexible Vacuum
To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge, add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum hose. It can be bent or flattened to get into narrow openings.
Reheating Refrigerated Breads
To warm biscuits, pancakes, muffins, etc., that were refrigerated, wrap them with a napkin or paper towel and place in a microwave with a cup of water. (Set microwave on low temperature, for about one minute.) The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.
Reheating Pizza
Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove. Set heat to med-low and heat pizza till warm -- this keeps the crust crispy. No more soggy micro pizza.
Soft Ice Cream
If you prefer "soft" ice cream, add a little milk to your dish of frozen ice cream!
Easy Deviled Eggs
Put cooked egg yolks in a zip-lock bag -- seal, and mash till yolks are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal the bag, and continue mashing/mixing thoroughly. Cut the tip of the bag, and squeeze the mixture into the egg whites. Just throw bag away when done for easy clean up.
Expanding Cake Frosting
When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.
Measuring Cups
Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill it with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry the cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.
Picking Up Broken Glass
Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't easily see.
Newspaper Weeds Away
After putting in your plants, and working the nutrients into the soil, wet newspapers and put layers around the plants, overlapping as you go -- cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic, but they will not get through wet newspapers.
Squirrel Away!
To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle the plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.
No More Mosquitoes
Place a fabric softener dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.
Goodbye Fruit Flies
To get rid of pesky fruit flies or moths, take a small glass or bowl and add one-half inch of Apple Cider Vinegar and two drops of dish washing liquid, and mix well. Those pests will be drawn to the liquid, and quickly drown!
Get Rid of Ants
Put small piles of dry cornmeal wherever you see ants. They eat it, and take it "home," but can't digest it, so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed by insecticides!
Foggy Windshield
Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car. When the windows fog up, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!
Reopening Envelopes
If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily.
Shaving
Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's a lot cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it on your hair.
Splinters
Before resorting to tweezers or a needle, simply put some Scotch tape over the splinter, then pull it off. Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily.
Reducing Static Cling
Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and -- static is gone!
Clothes Dryers
Even though you might keep your dryer lint filter clean, fabric softener dryer sheets can cause a film to build up over the mesh and cause the dryer heating unit to burn out. You cannot see the film, but it is there! The best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (and to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out and wash it with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush at least every six months.
