Sisterly News

We wish a late Happy Birthday to: Sandy Connolly (June 22) , Karen Bary (June 29), Margaret Barrs (July 05), Jennifer Peterson (July 9), Sandra McMichael (July 10), Christine Nielsen (July 16).
This month Cheryl Callavini celebrated on August 12. Nan Brooks-Hoyle will celebrate on September 3, Myra Pattishall on September 16, and Dr. Etoile Graves-Smith on September 18.

Many from Beta Pi chapter joined together to celebrate Marilyn Russell’s retirement in June. Marilyn plans to stay active in education and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Debra Luke also retired from Duval County but will teach at University Christian next year.

We hope that everyone has a wonderful new school year and knows that all retired sisters are available to help you in any way that we can.

Membership

Please make sure we have your current e-mail address. We are trying to move into the electronic age a little bit at a time. It will save us lots of money if we can send out our newsletter electronically. If you do not use e-mail, we will still mail your newsletter the regular way. If that is your preference, perhaps you would like to donate a small amount for stamps. We are being encouraged to make a Chapter website, and may have a friend who will show us how to do it. If you are tech savvy and want to be webmaster, let Carolynne Fooshee know. Eventually, we will get our Rose Petals on the website.

Program

The Executive board met on August 15 to finalize our 2009-2010 meeting schedule. Our first meeting of this year will be held on Saturday September 26th at 9:00AM. We will meet at the Secret Garden Café in their new Firefly Room for breakfast. The Secret Garden is located at 10095 Beach Boulevard in the Peach Shopping Plaza. (Remember Beach and Peach). After the Meeting we will carpool to Quiltfest at the Prime Osborne. We would love to see your smiling face at our first meeting, whether you have time to go to the Quiltfest or not.
We will meet at Brooks Rehab on October 26 at 6:30 for our second meeting. You are asked to bring a children’s book or puzzle to assist in our “Books for Brooks” service project. You may join others from Beta Pi at 5:00 at European Street for dinner and socializing before the meeting. Esther Lee, a master food and nutritionist with the University of Florida Agriculture Extension, will speak on “Keeping Full on an Empty Wallet”. We would like to have a good turn-out for this meeting.

Money Matters

Rita will begin collecting dues at the September 26th meeting. Last year they were $75 for active members and $40 for reserve (inactive) members. The board did not recommend a change, but we will vote on September 26th.

District II and Mu State

Mu State Fall Workshop will be held on September 11 and 12 at the Marriott in Orlando.
