Inside every English speaking person is an Italian speaker trying to get out!

I truly believe and have come to the conclusion that inside every English speaker there is an Italian speaker trying to get out. So let your Italian speaker out! It really is so easy for an English speaking person to learn Italian.
Through Latin both languages share a common vocabulary. Fact is the English language has a 60% Latin root vocabulary the same Latin root Italian has. There are so many similarities between English and Italian that some people describe them as language cousins. Thousands of words in Italian are similar to or identical with their English equivalents; and a great many words sound almost alike. Then, too, Italian pronunciation is easier. It is straightforward and phonetic without any of the exceptions that occur in English. As you learn, read and speak Italian these similarities between the two languages become apparent.
That being said, let's take a look at what we're talking about when we say Italian and English are cousins and or have similar vocabulary.
Words that are similar in both languages are called cognates and here are a few:
azione-action, certo-certain, agente-agent, attenzione-attention, caso-case, centro, (CHEH-troh)-center, importante-important, interessante-interesting, necessario-necessary,, possible-possibile, radio-radio, festa-festival, ristorante-restaurant, teatro-theater, telefono-telephone, treno-train, visita-visit, simile-similar, nazione-nation, chitarra-guitar, esempio-example , totalmente-total, attore-actor, capitale-capital, colore-color, familiare-familiar, generoso-generous, umore-humor, locale-local, materiale-material, originale-original, personale-personal, regolare-regular, dottore-doctor, etc.
As you can see most if not all of these words don't even need translation. This is that Italian speaker in you coming out.
As you can also see, building up an Italian vocabulary is fairly easy since a great number of words are similar in English and Italian.
Of course there is a little difference in pronunciaton but that's what makes Italian Italian.
There are different groups of words similar in Italian in English. Let's take a look.
- For the Italian word just add the letter e. annuale - annual, origine - origin, occasionale - occasional, speciale - special, parte – part
- For the Italian word add a or o. lista, costo, problelma, persona, liquido
- These Italian words have a or o where the English ones have e. causa, favorito, preferito, minuto, figura, medicina, rosa, uso, tubo.
Spelling equivalents
- Italian c (cc) = English k (ck) franco, parco, sacco, attacco
- Italian f = English ph frase, telefono, fiscio, fonico, fonectico
- Italian s (ss) = English x esercizio, esempio, Messico, Mexico, fisso
- Italian st = English th autore, teatro, simpatia, teoria
- Italian t = English th autore, teatro, simpatia, teoria
- Italian z (zz) = English c forza, razza
- Italian i = English y stile, sistema, mistero, ritmo,
- Italian o = English ou corte, corso, montagna
- Italian io = English y segretario, territorio
- Italian zione = English tion nazione, addizione
- Italian o = English al interno, politico, eterno
- Italian oso = English ous famoso, numeroso, generoso, religioso.

The Manatee County branch of the ORDER SONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA is the Bradenton Lodge. Our lodge is relatively new but the Order celebrated their 100th anniversary in June 2005. We have over 700 lodges in the United States and Canada. Florida has over 40 lodges and a Grand Lodge.
We are inviting you to join our lodge and the ORDER SONS OF ITALY IN AMERICA. Your membership will support the many purposes of the Bradenton Lodge as well as the Florida Grand Lodge and OSIA.
The purpose of the Order is:
A. Enroll in its membership all persons of Italian birth or descent …who believe in the fundamental concept that society is based upon the principles of law and order, and who adhere to a form of government founded upon the belief in God, and based upon the Constitution of the United States of America.
B. To promote civic education as well as the oral, intellectual and material well being of our membership.
C. To encourage the dissemination of Italian culture in America, thereby keeping alive the spiritual attachment and tradition of the land of our ancestors.
D. To defend and uphold the prestige of the people of Italian birth or descent in America, as well as upholding the concept of Americanism.
E. To encourage the active participation of our membership in the political, social, and civic life of our communities.
F. To organize and establish benevolent and social welfare institutions for the protection and assistance of our members, their dependents, and in general the needy, with such material aid as we are able to give.
G. To initiate and organize movements for patriotic and humanitarian purposes, and to join in meritorious movements for such purposes which other organizations or groups have initiated.
Our Bradenton Lodge is developing activities to achieve our goals through fundraising and socializing. We hope you will join us! We sure could use your help!
We meet at the Bradenton Sons of Italy Lodge, 4802 'B', 26th St W, Bradenton FL, on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM. We also serve a home cooked Italian dinner before our meeting, starting at 5:00 PM. Please join us at dinner and our meeting to see if we can help you increase your appreciation of your interest in things Italian.

My family came from Calabria, the Italian region that occupies the southernmost tip of the Italian peninsula. It is one of the country's most dynamic areas. Its location straddles mainland Italy & Sicily, thus giving features of each while creating a culture all its own. Reggio Calabria is the largest & oldest city in the region, boasting bright beaches, ancient castles, & the National Museum of Magna Grecia where visitors can admire the Bronzi di Riace ( Riace Warriors), enigmatic 2400 year old bronze statues discovered by scuba divers in 1972. When you're there, be sure to get your fix of bergametto, the unique tart oranges found only in Calabria.
