Lodge Flag

IMPORTANT: As you will read elsewhere on this site, we are a gathering of human beings of mixed heritage (native and non) seeking to learn about our collective past while respecting the old ways. There is never a "fee" for any ceremony or event... and we never present ourselves as anything other than the questing folks that we are.

"The life of an Indian is like the wings of the air. That is why you notice the hawk knows how to get his prey. The Indian is like that. The hawk swoops down on its prey ; so does the Indian. In his lament he is like an animal. For instance, the coyote is sly; so is the Indian. The eagle is the same. That is why the Indian is always feathered up; he is a relative to the wings of the air."

- Black Elk

"You have noticed that everything an Indian does is in a circle. That is because the power of the world always works in circles, and everything tries to be round.... The sky is round, and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball, and so are all the stars. The wind in its greatest power, whirls. Birds make their nests in circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours. Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing and always come back again, to where they were. The life of a man is a circle, from childhood to childhood. And so it is in everything, where power moves..." Black Elk – Oglala Lakota

Give us hearts to understand.

Never to take from creation’s beauty more than we give;

Never to destroy wantonly for the furtherance of greed,

Never to deny to give our hands for the building of earth’s beauty,

Never to take from her what we cannot use.

Give us hearts to understand.

That to destroy earth’s music is to create confusion;

that to wreck her appearance is to blind us to beauty;

That to callously pollute her fragrance is to make a house of stench; that as we care for her she will care for us.

We have forgotten who we are.

We have sought only our own security.

We have exploited simply for our own ends.

We have distorted our knowledge.

We have abused our power.

Great Spirit, whose dry lands thirst, help us to find the way to refresh your lands.

Great Spirit, whose waters are choked with debris and pollution, help us to find the way to cleanse your waters.

Great Spirit, whose beautiful Earth grows ugly with misuse, help us to find the way to restore beauty to your handiwork.

Great Spirit, whose creatures are being destroyed, help us to find a way to replenish them.

Great Spirit, whose gifts to us are being lost in selfishness and corruption, help us to find the way to restore our humanity.

~ Big Thunder (Bedagi) late 19th. century Algonquin ~

Wick - the Lodge Kitty

Below are a very few of the brothers and sisters who have come to the Lodge (located in the Tampa Bay area of Florida) for community and teachings... both to receive and to give. We are a multi-tribal, mixed cultural family of souls who honor the ways of the Grandmothers and Grandfathers of Turtle Island. While we do not mix non-native culture with native culture in Ceremony (as we've been taught by the old ones, by Creator and by our own sacred heart), some of us may also follow other traditions in other venues. This is a time of great need, a time for great healing... Creator I feel you around and through me. Help us build our Lodge in a good way, and pray to you with every step - for you are listening to me. AHo.

We are all welcomed here... come home Native America.

Okay, folks... e-mail me your profiles and birthdays so I can add the wonderfulness which is YOU!

LITTLE BIRD Birthday: November 6
Linda Little Bird Holtz began the first Wolf's Heart Lodge in Kansas City when she was in college. When she and her husband John moved to the Tampa Bay area, a new incarnation was created here where the Wolf's Heart and Daughters of the Earth Lodges have been active for nearly ten years. Little Bird and John are moved their home to Texas during February 2002. Little Bird is of Cherokee heritage.

Grandmother Mechi

GRANDMOTHER MECHI GARZA Birthday: January 31st
Grandmother Mechi Garza is a Native American of Choctaw and Cherokee descent. She serves on the Intertribal Elders Council of West Virginia and is active as a healer and storyteller with various groups. Ms. Garza has been a writer for over fifty years with 11 books, movies, television documentaries and magazine stories to her credit, and for four years she taught at the University of Charleston. Friends have urged her to write her own story, but she has always refused; however others wrote it for her and in 1997 a documentary on her life, Metis: of Mixed Blood, was seen on public service television. When questioned, Mechi says of all the things that please her most is to be called Grandmother by all of her honorary grandchildren, no matter their race or age.

Anisoquili (Many Ponies)

MANY PONIES Birthday: January 27th
Marsha Anisoquili (Many Ponies) Raymond. Born and raised in North Carolina. Came to the Tampa Bay area from North Carolina in 1981. She was passed the responsibility and honor of serving as Keeper of the Lodges in early 2002 upon the leaving of Little Bird for Texas, as well as the Lodge pipe to be used for the good of the People. Many Ponies is a woman of Powathan, Cherokee, Choctaw, Welsh and Scot heritage (a typical "Celtic Indian"! There's many of us out there from NC & VA). She can trace her family lines to the early 1300s. There were seven of her surnames on the Trail of Tears roll. Many Ponies has been sitting in circles since the mid-1970s and is honored to be placed in a position to serve the Lodge and the Land. Although fortunate enough to have been raised with the knowledge and teachings of her ancestry, she in no way charges for any event or claims to be anything other than a daughter of the Creator.

Hope you enjoy this website I created for you...

SKY DANCER Birthday: November 1st
John Sky Dancer Raymond, husband to Many Ponies has walked the Red Path since meeting Little Bird when she first came to Florida nine years ago. He works as Keeper of the Lodges, along side Many Ponies, for the good of the Lodges and is hoping to rebirth Sons of the Earth - a men's drumming circle. Let him know of your interest. Sky works hard to protect the Land and honors the Elders.

REDHAWK Birthday: September 23
Susan Redhawk Travis was second to none in helping organize the recent Spirit of America Native American & Wildlife Art Festival held in Clearwater this past November. Another Metis Woman with a strong connection to the Grandfather. Redhawk also does wonderful photography - such as landscapes, wildlife and native american children. (See her business card on the main page to contact her)

LYNN REDBIRD Birthday: May 24
Grandmother Redbird is one of our beloved Elders who brings great wisdom to the Circle. She came to us as a volunteer during the Spirit of America Native American and Wildlife Art Festival held in Clearwater, and has since stated with the Lodge to love and be loved. Grandmother Redbird's son (Sun) lives in North Carolina and is a Sun Dancer. She learned many things from her Cherokee aunties, and now walks also in a good way with the Lakota traditions.

Red Bird

COOL BREEZE Birthday: December 31

SUNWALKER Birthday: February 26
Charlie Sun Walker Cox is of Cherokee decent; one of a few "born and raised Florida Crackers." He has begun a new and truly enjoyable journey to bond with and coax out splendorous sounds from his Native American flutes. Sun Walker practices physical and mental healing through massage therapy. He is also the proud Grandfather of two lovely granddaughters who live in Arkansas.

Kim Turquoise Cloud is of Czech and Italian decent. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She is very honored to be walking the Red Road along side her brothers and sisters. Turquoise Cloud loves creating design graphic work such as business cards, address labels, etc. Her gift to you: "We are merely visitors on the Mother Earth and need to take care of her with all our heart and soul." A-Ho... O'siyo to all my relations!

BRIGHT STAR WOMAN Birthday: October 13

WHITE PEARL WOMAN Birthday: March 30
Lisa White Pearl Woman Portelli was born in Bangor, Maine and enjoys a rich Italian, English and German heritage. The product of a military family, she lived in Norway for 9 years in her youth and appreciated the many benefits of traveling extensively in Europe after her parents divorced. She returned to the States in her late teens and relocated to Florida where she studied forensic science. Life unfolded with marriage and the birth of her beloved son, Ian - a strapping, bright young man and gentle soul. Ultimately, she got a divorce, and this was the beginning of an awakening of consciousness that has resulted in her heart's desire - to love and be loved. White Pearl has a passion for natural beauty, writing, the study of intuition, the healing arts and cystals. She's convinced that nothing... nothing in life happens by chance. All is by design.

Redhawk - Many Ponies - Sun Walker

SUNSET WOLF Birthday: July 18
Son of Many Ponies. 5th Degree Black Belt. Teaches martial arts, lives in New York City with his new bride.

Sunset Wolf

SILVER OWL Birthday: June 11
Ever wonder how Silver Owl got the nickname 'One-Pint-Sioux'? When she was a young child she had to have surgery - tonsils she remembers. After the operation, she would not stop bleeding and had to have a blood transfusion to save her life. A donor was found, and the Doctor talked with her parents to get their permision so that she could receive this gift of life as the donor was a full blooded Sioux who was in the military. Of course, at that time being Indian was not the "in" thing and although she had inherited Native American blood (Cherokee from Mom, and Blackfoot from Dad), this was not a thing to be done lightly. The permission was granted, however, and the transfusion given. As the blood flowed from that gentleman's arm into her little body, Silver Owl says that her parent's were truly grateful to this Sioux Warior from the Ogalala Nation, as she has been ever since she was old enough to be told this story. As a result of this, her Mother would frequently tease her lovingly about being,"One-Pint-Sioux. Thanks for sharing this tale with us Silver Owl... we too are appreciative of his gift to you when you were a "fledging"! Note: Silver Owl passed from this world in November 2005. We leave her profile here to honor her life walk.

BLUE DOLPHIN WOMAN Birthday: April 26
Kandee Blue Dolpin Woman McLean lives in a beautiful RV campground in Palmetto where she gets to see eagles everyday. Her totem is Dolphin. Wonderfully supportive mate Jeff, 5 children, 2 grandchildren. Bonding with her new friend Sheila (the drum). Once published... will be again!

Blue Dolphin Woman (& "Sheila"!)

WHITE SHELL WOMAN Birthday: ?
Mexican native / origin unknown. Loves photography, cooking, socializing and debate. Connection to Dolphin and Bear. Personal quote: "Where there is fear, there is no love. Where there is love, there is no fear."

FLYING BIRD Birthday: May 12th [Mother's Day]
Adopted. Has been married twice and has two daughters, two granddaughters, and a grandson. Sharon was told by her father many years ago that her family had some Iroquois ancestry... and, whether or not this is true, she have always felt an infinity for nature particularly Eagle and Dragonfly. Sharon says that even thought she has much to learn about following the Red Road, that perhaps she has always been there in some way, but is eager and willing to learn. She also wishes to learn how to play her new indian flute that was purchased at the Art Festival last year.

SILVER BIRD Birthday: September 23
Donna Silver Bird Allen raised in the greater Detroit area of Michigan, moved to the Bay area in 1990. Completed Massage Therapy training 4 years ago and currently makes house calls where needed. Another calling came last summer when she was led to Little Bird and the WHL. She was warmly welcomed to the circle, and says that the greatest joy in her association is that although she feels a part of the group, she is allowed to be alone in choosing how to walk her own spiritual path. It is Silver Bird's personal belief that when we live in balance - all things are. She practices yoga, studies chakra balancing techniques and is a student of Advanced Kalaimni with Grandmother Mechi. She also has started working with crystals and is in the process of discerning a path in that area. Silver Bird offers, "If I can be of service to any of my relations, you need only allow me to know your need."
