The Kiwanis Club of Dunedin is part of an organization that began in 1915 with one club in Detroit, Michigan. Kiwanis International as it became known in 1916, by establishing a club in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, has its headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana and now has over 13,000 clubs with more than 600,000 Kiwanis-family members in 96 countries.

In a typical year, Kiwanis clubs invest more than 6.2 million man-hours and 100 million U. S. dollars in communities around the world. Through these efforts, Kiwanians are truly "Serving the Children of the World" and leaving a lasting impression on future generations.

The full and real history of the Dunedin Kiwanis club can never be reduced to words on paper. The real history of the club is written in the hearts and lives of the members and their committees.

The Kiwanis Club of Springtime City and The Kiwanis Club of Greater Clearwater, both of Clearwater, Florida, sponsored the Kiwanis Club of Dunedin. Field Representative William B. Bracks completed organization of the Club on August 5, 1959. A dinner dance was held with members providing a Barber Shop Quartet, presentation of gifts, presentation and acceptance of the charter, and dancing until midnight.

Charter Night was held on Saturday, September 12, 1959 at the Clearwater Yacht Club and District Governor Chester McDonald presented the Charter. The permanent organization membership was 26 with 16 additional members added Charter Night, making a total of 42 Charter Members.

Lieutenant Governor George W. Smith presided at the Charter Night Ceremonies. The Officers at the Charter presentation were:

  • President, Elbert L. Linville
  • Vice President, Harmon H. Eason, Jr.
  • Vice President, A. Kingman Pratt
  • Secretary-Treasure, Henri-Jean Pauchey

The Dunedin Kiwanis Club has been in service beginning in 1959 and continues to support Dunedin and the surrounding communities through donations, hard work, and the many members who work together for the betterment of our community.
