THE ISSUE OF REDISTRICTING IS CRITICAL TO ALL OF US. WE ALL REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED IN TEXAS WHEN REDISTRICTING BECAME AN "OBVIOUS" POLITICAL MANEUVER. IN OUR OWN AREA WE HAVE VOTING DISTRICTS STRUCTURED SO THAT CANDIDATES MUST LEAVE A PORTION OF THEIR DISTRICT AFTER ADDRESSING SOME OF THEIR CONSTITUENTS AND TRAVEL TO ADDRESS THEIR REMAINING CONSTITUENTS.... IN SOME DISTRICTS CONSTITUENTS ARE GEOGRAPHICALLY SEPARATED!!!! THE ABOVE IS A ROUGH SKETCH OF THE ISSUE......COME ON THE 24TH.....LEARN MORE SO WE CAN ALL TAKE INTELLIGENT ACTION AND SPEAK TO OTHERS ABOUT THIS IN A COGENT EDUCATED MANNER. reservations should be made by calling Jeannie Moller at 829-1770 cell 704-4332 or pick up tickets at DEC headquarters - 825-2336 This is the hot button item....what do you think? As time permits....I'll send you studies polls etc on this subject.....this piece points out how powerful the INSURANCE lobby is. As you may know I have had my Mom with me for the lat 2 month and we have been intimately involved in health care. A few points, medicare works. With few exceptions, health care is already rationed. First of all doctors have the amount of time they may spend with patients (7minutes per patient in some cases) determined by the insurance companies. Insurance companies can reject (ration) care prescribed by your doctor. Even with inusrance, your policy determines what will be "considered" - its not what the medical need is, it is what policy you have. How hight your deductables are, how much you have to pay in co-pays is an effective "rationing" of service. Secondly, we hear, we don't want goverment to get between us and our doctor.....see above...the insurance companies are already between you and your docor and for all intents and purposes making medical decisions for you and yor doctor. Also.....single payer systems are NOT socialism....the doctors remain independent, insurance companies are part of the mix and remain profitable etc. etc. We do not have a health care system in this country.....we have a health insurance market.... Facts:In a study led by the Indiana University School of Medicine, it was found that that 83 percent of psychiatrists, 69 percent of emergency medicine specialists, 65 percent of pediatricians, 64 percent of internists, 60 percent of family physicians and 55 percent of general surgeons favor a national health insurance plan. The researchers said they believe the survey was representative of the 800,000 U.S. medical doctors. |
