Drivers have become so inconsiderate of one another and disregard traffic signals. Signals no longer regulate traffic, drivers do! How many times have you sat still at a green light to insure no red light runners are heading your way before you enter the intersection? This only adds to the congestion and delays we all experience, but what choice do we have? This law is already too late. Too many people have died in senseless crashes. Get on the ball, legislators! Save lives!
I support this bill because I cross the same intersection several times a day that Mark Wandall was killed at and still see on a daily basis people running the same red light that the driver ran that killed Mark. I didn't know him at all but I think something has to be done to change this intersection along with others. Don't allow this to continue. Please help make our streets a safer place to drive. I am a mother of two small children and I only want what is best for my family.
I strongly agree with this bill.
My son, Mark was killed by a Red Light Runner and she was a repeat offender. It is very important that we are working towards putting the cameras at intersections. We need to be saving lives.
This is a MUCH needed life-saving initiative that can only stand to enhance the quality of life and provide comfort and assurance to each and everyone of us, knowing our loved ones are more likely to make it home safely!
We are in support of this initiative. Please help make it happen!
Cameras at intersections are not invasive or intrusive.
I WAS HIT BY A RED LIGHT RUNNER 6 YEARS AGO , MY NECK AND BACK WILL NEVER BE THE SAME . THANK GOD MY WIFE AND MY SELF ARE HERE TO TELL ABOUT IT. P.S THE DRIVER HAD NO DL,NO INS,FAULTY EQUIPMENT AND AND FHP LET HIM WALK AWAY .????????
Mark Wandall was a childhood friend of mine, and for him to be taken by something so avoidable is a tragedy. Help put an end to Red Light Running.
This is long overdue! sarasota and bradenton have a massive problem w/ red light runners.
My Mom was killed by a red light runner in Riverview on 9/28/05. I was not at all prepared for the lack of justice that there is regarding cases such as this. As far as I am concerned, a vehicle driven by a careless driver is as much of a weapon as a gun. Why are the punishments so different? The laws need to be changed and drivers need to be awakened to the safety concerns on our roads.
My nieces lost their mother because someone ran a red light at a busy intersection near Tampa.
This bill is long overdue. Civilized european countries have had these cameras for decades.
It's about time something is done about red light running. Each day I count at least five cars running a red light. This caused the death of my nephew; and I don't want this to happen to another family!
My aunt was killed in Florida by a red light runner and my cousin had to fight to get a citation issued and find witnesses. The cameras would have prevented all the questioning.
Every single day I see drivers running red lights & stop signs. It is really scary to drive anymore!
It worked in San Diego. Let's bring it here.
I lost my Mom to a red-light runner on 9/28/05 in Riverview. Please pass this law.
I lost my fiance to a red-light runner on 9/28/05 in Riverview. Please pass this law.
I lost my Grandma to a red light runner in Riverview on 9/28/05. Please pass this law for her.
I lost my Mother-in Law to a red light runner in Riverview on 9/28/05.
I lived in Florida for 22 yrs. I believe that cameras at any intersection is a wonderful idea.
Christa Ferrari was a very dear and special lady and I truly miss her bright presence at my Church and in my life.
We should all drive safer.
They are needed badly in Sarasota/Manatee Counties.
I support this legislation and think the fines should be even higher! Thanks!
I was recently involved in an accident where a driver ran a stop sign and crshed into me. Fortunately, I only suffered a broken hand. It could have been much worse.
Oh yes i will sign this as my son was killed in 2002 by a girl that ran a red light. And the system let her walk free. My son left 3 children behind that now will go up with out a father. And the girl goes on with her life. I spoke to Mr. Reagan about this and i pray that they will get these installed. It can help my son now but maybe it will help another mother if this should happen to thier child. This has been 3 and half years of pure hell with the loss of my son. I will do anything to help this to happen.
Plan ahead for better timing.
I live in Mango but have a Tampa mailing address. I wish you luck and pray this goes through.
In memory of Christa Ferrari, we do need to stop this now.
Thank you!
I live in Flagler County and work in Volusia for the school board. Please help. This is very dangerous. We lose too many lives at intersections. We need to start taking licenses and jail time when they try to drive without a license.
My husband was killed at an intersection and we believe the woman responsible sped through the intersection. Her actions devastated our family. This bill is long overdue.
Good job Melissa!
This is a great idea.
I did not know Mark, but I do know his father. If Mark was anything like his father, then he was quite a man. It is a shame that he had to go like that. Please pass this bill.
I support this petition.
This is great, I know the Wandall family and it is a crime that someone must loose their life because someone else in too much of a hurry or not paying attention to the road while driving.
I think this is a great idea. I witness people running red lights every time I drive. Not just late yellow lights, I mean a second or two after the light is red.
My husband was hit on the corner of Cortez Road and 86th Street last year and almost again last week. This intersection seems to be one of the worst in the county. We see it happening on a daily basis.
Christa and my Mom worked at Sunbelt Newspaper. It's hard to believe that she's departed from this earth.
I was one of the lucky ones who walked away, when a red light runner struck my car on March 30th at 10th Street and Route 41 (Sarasota).
How many more people have to die until this is realized as a SERIOUS issue on our roadways?
Something absolutely HAS TO BE DONE about this problem. It gets worse every day.
I also have been almost killed by red light runners. Major problem intersections - :Airport/ Pine Ridge, US41 and Pine Ridge, Vanderbilt and Airport. Let's put teeth in the law!
People who pass red lights should receive jail time as they are a menace to society. My heart goes out to all the innocent victims. Thank God for people like Melassa Wandall.
Each person who runs a red light should be held responsbile for their actions-- there is no "good reason" to run a light. This time around it was my siter who was killed next time it could be yours or your daughter or mother.. STOP RED LIGHT RUNNING NOW! Make those who run red lights responsible for their actions!
I hope I am not too late to join your petition.I just read about your organization in the Naples Daily News yesterday. Good Luck!!
Strongly support this measure -- friend almost killed by red light runner !!!!!!!!!!!
Please help to stop red light runners.
We need "red-light" cameras in Florida NOW!!!!!
I think the operative provision should have been specific in supporting automatic photo enforcement systems. It only is inferred here.
We were personal friends of the Wandalls since the mid 70's.
This is such a necessary step to take in the effort to stop the killing and maiming by people who totally disregard not only the yellow warning light but also the red light.
Please make those that run red lights PAY! People are killed by those not paying attention.
With the safeguards that are built into the Mark Wandall Safety act, I believe it should be made law.
My heart goes out to the Wandell family. I live in the neighborhood where he was killed and I see the sign they try to keep at our intersection.
Something needs to be done about people running red lights!
Put red light runners in jail!
Best of Luck with this! :-)
We must do everything possible to stop the tragic loss of life due to irresponsible drivers. We have a serious problem when a yellow light is viewed as time to speed up. Let's get the cameras in place so that the "runners" will readjust their thought process.
Put the cameras in place so that the dummies will slow down on yellow and stop on red.
FINALLY!!! We may as well take the lights down. It seems so few people pay attention to them. I personally follow red light runners, get their tag number and call it into 365-TAGS. They are supposed to receive a letter saying they were seen going through the red light. Thank you for having this petition available for me to sign. I'm all for it!
This new law is desperately needed in Naples where the dangerous practice of running red lights is increasing dramatically.
Please help end this dangerous behavior.
Thank you for stopping the red light runners.
I was twice a victim of someone running a red light. The first was a school bus full of children. The driver didn't want to stop due to her busy schedule. My husband and I were seriously injured. The second almost took my life. I am still suffering the effects of both. This is the link to an article about the second crash: http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/news-article.aspx?storyid=19812
.Thank you for doing for those who cannot!
