As I write this President’s message, the official first day of autumn has passed. There is a nip in the morning air, and the leaves are beginning to turn just a bit. Where did the lazy days of summer go? For many of us, there were no lazy days of summer while the Gilchrist County Woman’s Club took the summer off, as we do each year.

It has been over sixteen years (1996-97) since I last served as your President. Many things have changed, including our club name.

Your executive board has met and planned our annual calendar and events, so 2012-2013 is off to a rocking start.

Remember, the executive board serves the membership, and we try our best to serve our club, our community, and our country. Feel free to call or e-mail any executive board member with questions, comments, requests, or suggestions.

I am very excited to serve as your President for the 2012-2013 year, and look forward to working with the executive board and all Gilchrist County Woman’s Club members to keep our club moving forward, working for community improvement, through volunteer service.

We are all women - mothers, daughters, grandmothers, business and community leaders, women of diverse backgrounds, interests, and talents - united by a dedication to improving Gilchrist County and serving its citizens, from the children and youth to our “seasoned” residents of nursing homes.

Although our club voted not to renew our membership in The Florida Federation of Women’s Clubs, we still work hard to support the goals of Women’s Clubs nationwide - to support the arts, preserve our natural resources (and Gilchrist County has many), advance education, promote healthy lifestyles, encourage civic involvement, and work toward world peace and understanding. I hope you will join me in working hard toward these worthwhile goals, all the while having fun and fellowship with each other, and spreading joy, peace, and kindness throughout Gilchrist County and beyond.
