SOLING ONE METER ON LAKE EVERT

Welcome to the HLMSC web page. The Highland Lakes Model Sailing Club is located 1.3 miles south of junction CR 48 on US 27 at Highland Lakes, Leesburg Florida. Our club hosts three fleets, Soling One Meter, East Coast 12 Meter, Fairwind, plus an Open Class.

We sail year around but are most active from October through June. Our sailing schedule is Wednesday and Friday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM for Soling, Fairwind, and Open Class, and Wednesday 9:30 to 11:45 AM for EC 12 racing, weather permitting.

Our club offers informal racing for the novice, or expert sailor. We promote radio-controlled model sailing, and one design sailboat racing for residents, and our guests. Our mission is to educate members on sailboat building, rigging, handling, racing rules, and sailing tactics. All radio-controlled sailboats are welcomed to sail with our Fleets or in our Open Class. HLMSC is a sanctioned AMYA club (#248).

Come join us with your radio-controlled sailboat at Highland Lakes on Lake Evert, or try one of our Fleet boats. For more information contact Denis Futterlieb at 352-787-1980 or email me at dfutter@msn.com .

    THE OLYMPIC SOLING HISTORY

THE SOLING HISTORY -The Soling was designed as a day racer/sailer (without any compromising cruising accommodations) by Jan Linge and appeared as a National Class in Norway in 1965. In 1968 after a series of trials the ISAF selected the Soling (over a number of designs created for the occasion) to be the Olympic Three-Men Keelboat. Despite the subsequent appearance of vast numbers and varieties of similarly sized keelboats, its superiority continued to be recognized by its selection for every Olympics since 1972 until the Australian Olympics in the year 2000.
