2nd Team Pennine Division 6 HAREHILLS 17 HOYLAND VIKINGS A 10 In a tough game spent mostly in each others ten, Harehills managed to secure a second win for the season. A good start from Harehills meant multiple sets within the Hoyland 30, repeatedly attacking their line to no avail. Good defending from Hoyland kept Harehills at bay until they could themselves get across the tryline for the first points of the game,Dave Lodge touching down to put Hoyland were now 4 points up. The rest of the first half would be spent much like the rest of the game with the two teams attacking hard from end to end, with strong defensive lines being the key. A good start to the second half for Hoyland meant another 6 points on the board when Adam Breakborough scored a try, goaled by Adam Reaney but not giving up just yet the Harehills boys started to battle back into the game. The first try for the home team came around 10 minutes into the half by Matty Keighley under the sticks. A good conversion put Harehills back within touching distance of Hoyland's scoreline. Yet the Hoyland defence wasn't ready to give up yet and it wouldn’t be until the final quarter of the game that Harehills would get over the line thanks to Russ Anderson, but the missed conversion put the score at an even peg.
Two attempts for a drop goal finally paid off for Joe Batt, setting a club record with the first open age drop goal in the two seasons the club have been playing. The Harehills standoff shortly after getting a third and final try which would lead his team to their second victory. Harehills spokesman stated that this was 'A game played in very good spirit by both teams, with some good banter back at the club It was unfortunately two losses for the Hoyland lads with the boat race also being won easily by Harehills' Saturday: A team at Wibsey (Bradford) ![]() Dave Lodge & Matt Wilkinson, Photo by Mick Condon
