    Commanders Message

Our October picnic/meeting took place at Coquina Beach, while enjoying absolutely perfect weather. Approximately fifty were in attendance, including members and guests. Joe Manna and Ellie Dorgan purchased the food and did all of the planning. Bill Gilkerson, Rich Caverly and Frank Marschke worked the charcoal grill. Many members and guests contributed side dishes and desserts. A successful picnic could not have occurred with out their much appreciated help.

Judge Advocate, Ted Czerwinski held the second round of nominations of officers. Nominations at this point in time are: Commander, Skip Hannon, First Vice Commander, Bill Gilkerson, Second Vice Commander, Joe Manna, Third Vice Commander, Mary Ann Maus, Treasurer, Janet Robinson. The last round of nominations and elections will be held at the November 19th meeting, with installations of officers at our December 17th dinner meeting at 11:00 A.M.

Richard Caverly, Scotty Blomeley and I presented our "Tell America" program, to forty students and faculty at State Florida College in Venice. Professor Rogers has invited us to visit again and will invited the entire college to attend. Hopefully our snowbird members will be available.

We are to participate in the Veterans Day parade forming at 8:45 A. M. on Wednesday, November 11th at Monument Park at the Manatee River, adjacent to Manatee Hospital. All are invited. Please wear full uniform.

On Friday, November 13th at 8:45 A.M. we will attend Bradenton River Middle School for raising of the colors, ceremony, presentation of scholarships, breakfast and all day presenting, "Tell America" to all students. In uniform, if possible.

We have decided upon Bradenton Press, to print our Convention Journal/Program. Shirley Ledford has agreed to prepare the lay out for the printers, which will save us a considerable expense. We thank Shirley for this assistance. As you know she does a wonderful job as publisher of our monthly Viewpoint.

CHAPLAIN'S CORNER

GOD BLESS AMERICA

*CHAPLAIN’S CORNER* Psalm 90 is truly one of the great Psalms. It brings together the deep issues of life before God in an inspiring and instructive manner.

One section in particular offer rich and powerful messages. Verses 1 and 2 declared the Lord as "our dwelling place...from everlasting to everlasting." First things are settled first in this Psalm. God is declared as the eternal Source of all creation and the Origin of all things to which existence shall finally return.

The Lord's perspective is delineated in a second section found in verse 4: "For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night." A watch in the night can seem a very lengthy affair to those involved in the specific duty. Yet, even that gage is as nothing compared to God's period of watch, creation and reign over all existence. He can telescope a millennium into a night watch from His perspective. Nonetheless, through our lives and all lives to come, we are assured that God is near, and with Him is the light of our lives. .

Amen.

MAY YOU HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING! LET US PRAY FOR OUR TROOPS, OUR CHAPTER, OUR FAMILIES AND ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO ARE HURTING.

Advanced VA Health Funding Passed

The VA Health Care advanced funding bill, H.R. 1016, was amended and approved by the Senate on October 8 and was then sent back to the House for approval. The House approved it on Tuesday and has sent it to the President for his signature. President Obama is expected to sign it shortly. This NAUS endorsed bill provides funds specifically for VA Health Care accounts one year in advance which will allow the VA to plan more efficiently, and have no lapses in treatments for our wounded warriors

VA Deputy Highlights Bond between Defense and Veterans Affairs

WASHINGTON (Oct. 16, 2009) - An innovative, far-sighted partnership between the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Defense (DoD) will improve the health care system for Veterans and dramatically change the way health care is delivered to all Americans, according to Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs W. Scott Gould.

"The future will see VA and DoD working even closer together, as we fulfill the President's requirement for a single Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record that will support Veterans from their day of induction to their day of interment."
