The Flag   The flag is symbolic of the unified effort of the United States, the Republic of Korea and our allies to stop Communist aggression on the Korean Peninsula 50 years ago. The light blue and white steramer that runs through the center of the flag is the U.N. Battle Streamer. The 22 stars represent the 22 allied nations that fought side-by-side to save South Korea. The words "FREEDOM IS NOT FREE" were added by the Veterans who, more than anyone else, know the great price of liberty. The flag is in both the English and Korean (Hangul) languages. In the center is the "Taeguk" symbol from the South Korean flag, familiar to many as the symbol for the philosophy of Yin and Yang. In Korea, known as Eum and Yang, tghe symbol stands for peace and harmony. South Korea has adopted this as its official Commemorative Flag.

    Commanders Message

    Hello KWVA Members and Friends.

Summer is here and our ranks have dwindled. Many of our members have returned north and some are on vacation, never the less we keep going. You may have heard about the new VA National Cemetery Dedication on Sunday June1st. It was packed with people and a large traffic jam ensued. But did you know that it was the hard work of two Chapter 199 members, Lee Kitchens and Don Courtney with the help of Kathryn Harris and Rep. Vern Buchanan that help bring this project to fruitation. We can be proud our chapter members were part of this history. I also received excellent comments regarding our color guard at the Dedication. Terry Willis not only has our color guard standing tall, but receiving great comments from dignitaries at other events also.

I am happy to report our treasurer; Fred Weinmann is making a good recovery from his heart bypass surgery and stroke. He is at home and is improving daily. We look forward to Fred's return to our meetings.

The Dept. of Florida Convention held in Tampa this May was a great success. They hosted four Iraq wounded veterans at the banquet on Saturday evening. One of the four did a tour of duty in Korea. They received several standing ovations from the Korean Veterans.

Our June meeting will be a memorial for our members who have passed and a POW & MIA Memorial conducted by Murdock Ford, of Lopez Chapter 175 from Tampa. Our color guard will be part of this service. Try to be present for this memorial.

That's all for now. See you at the meeting June 26 and bring a friend.

    Gene

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER

We are imperfect vessels, yet the One who is perfect dwells within us and longs to heal and bring us to perfection. Pray for healing and look for it. Don’t be surprised if it is your outlook that first needs healing. You must look into your heart and find a reason, however small, for living and then realize that God created that reason and longs to help you live in wholeness and happiness.

We so often elevate healing to the miraculous that we forget it is within us to have faith to be healed. For God is within, as well as without. We are to come to God as a child to a loving parent and not only look and ask, but expect good things.

Anyone can pray like this. Don’t listen to the lie that you are not “holy” enough or worthy of healing. No one is worthy; no saint, no guru, no pastoral minister, is any more powerful than you. The gift of God, within, is of equal measure.

I learned through my own futile questioning that it isn’t nearly as important to know where the “blame” lies as it is to know where the “cure” comes from.

Its the Veteran

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN, not the politician, Who has given us the right to vote.
