![]() WELCOME MID-FLORIDA QUEENS AND VICE QUEENS
YOUR MID-FLORIDA QUEENS COUNCIL IS NOW REGISTERED WITH THE NATIONAL RED HAT SOCIETY!! CHAPTER #76820
A COUNCIL COMMITTEE WHICH COLLABORATES IN UNITY OF COUNCIL LEADERSHIP.
BEING, THAT WE ARE A "DISORGANIZED" ENTITY WHICH STILL PREVAILS, HOWEVER, "NOTHING" CAN JUST COAST ALONG WITHOUT PITFALLS AND THERE MUST AT TIMES BE SOME GUIDE LINES.
THEREFORE, A MEANS OF GAINING KNOWLEDGE, ANSWERS, AND SHARING ARE OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE TO INSURE "FUN", "FRIENDSHIP", AND "PROTECTION" IN OUR PURSUIT OF FRIVOLOUS ENDEAVORS.
Our hope is to be able to better communicate between chapters. It also would be so much more fun and economical to participate in events on a granduar scale.
We have a strong group of Queen's already working on bringing more Queen's together. The Queens Council is made up of Queen's that have active chapter members that are registered with The National Red Hat Society and the events that will be posted on this website will be only from chapters that are registered. Attendance from chapters for these events must be registered. Hopefully this will be an incentive for chapters that are not now registered to do so.
Queen Mother Sue Ellen Cooper has stated in her Queens to Queens broadcasts that "Queens Councils" are a terrific idea for chapter Queens to meet and share ideas and even form new friendships and she heartily encourages these "Councils".
SOME QUEENS "MORE EQUAL" THAN OTHERS?
Concern: There are Queens, here and there, who have decided that they shall be "area Queen," "state Queen," or the like. Some of these people suggest that they are somehow in charge of things in their areas and that other chapters need to somehow go through them to contact Hatquarters.
Response: We ABSOLUTELY DO NOT sanction this type of thing, and we do not delegate authority in this way. It contradicts both the spirit and deliberately casual structure of the RHS. I believe that setting up a hierarchy of "state Queens" or "regional Queens" is an unworkable (and unappealing) idea.
The Queens Councils, mentioned above, are a much better way to connect. That way, each Queen treats others and is treated as a royal equal (which she is). A QUEEN IS A QUEEN IS A QUEEN!! We are all equal.
THIS WAS PART OF THE "QUEENS TO QUEENS" BROADCAST ON MARCH 1, 2007"
"UNOFFICIAL" RED HAT SOCIETY CHAPTERS
Queen Sharon Brown (Saintly Red Germain-iums, St. Germain, Wisconsin) addresses the issue of "unofficial" Red Hat Society chapters: "If a group of ladies want to be part of the Red Hat Society, the only way to do that is to register their chapter. If they don't register their chapter they are just a bunch of ladies going out to lunch in a red hat....I find it upsetting that unregistered groups still refer to themselves as chapters in the Red Hat Society."
RESPONSE:
"Very frankly, we find it upsetting too. These groups may consider themselves "unofficial chapters," but there is no such thing; either you are genuinely a part of something or you're not. Our attorney, Joel Wight, has this to say: "We certainly do expect chapters to pay annual dues. It is a very nominal amount, and any chapter that does not participate but still pretends to be part of the Red Hat Society is violating the intellectual property and other rights of the RHS."
GOOD TO KNOW YOU'RE OUT THERE!

RHS doesn't have rules. It does have a few guidelines, one of which is: Members 50 or over wear purple with red hats, while members under 50 wear lavender with pink hats. (And, of course, we can reverse our colors during our birthday months, if we want to.) Hard to believe that something like this can cause fuss and fury among our ranks. Yet, we've heard distressing stories involving conflict among some Queens and chapterettes over what, exactly, constitutes "correct" regalia. "Faces" have been known to turn red over the issue! As you surely know, the colors of the Red Hat Society were inspired by the poem, "Warning," in which a young woman declares that, when she is old, she will wear purple, with a red hat. She says she'll wear these bright, "clashing" colors to symbolize the freedom she will have attained by then - freedom to please herself and pair colors that "don't go" if she feels like it. That's why we started doing it. From the first gathering, Fabulous Founders made sure we wore (predominantly) purple, with red hats. Beyond that, we made no rules; after all, this was all intended to be done in fun. At no time did we delcare that one had to wear solid purple from head to hemline, nor a hat of any certain shape or size. It's the spirit of the outfit that's important - not the specific shade of purple (plum, amethyst, royal or eggplant) or the specific type of headgear. Wearing these colors - together-identifies us as RHS members and makes the public statement that we are "not dead and not done!" Because we have become such a cultural phenomemon, our colors have become easily recognizable as deeply symbolic of the sisterhood we share. Let's not allow them to become a cause for discord and division. We know that some Queens discourage their chapterettes from wearing printed fabics, even if purple is the dominant color, and they require actual hats for every single occasion, forbidding large red flowers, fascinators or "poufs". If you feel strongly about asking your members to observe a strict dress code, you do have the right, as Queen, to ask your chapterettes to honor your wishes. If they choose not to, they are free to join, or start, a different chapter. As with many other issues, we encourage our members to choose compromise over conflict. But if conflict persists, the best solution is an amicable parting of the ways. But, just so you know, the Fabulous Founders have been known to wear purple tops with black, red, or white pants or skirts-even denim-on occasion. Red poufs clipped onto the hair usually pass muster with us too. At our Red Hat Society Rhythm and Rhinestones convention, many attendees wore blue jeans with purple-fringed shirts and red cowboy hats. In our regalia, as in every other area, it's the spirit that counts. 2008 (our 10th anniversary) we plan to celebrate all year! So you may see some Red Hatters reversing their colors-even when it's NOT their birthday month-in order to honor the year-long birthday of the whole disorganization. You may see more red-along with purple-in some outfits too-skirts, pants, scarves, what-have-you. It goes with our hats, and it's such a celebratory, happy hue! Set your spirit free.
