SeaWind Fleet Description The SeaWind is a true One-Design 1-meter model replica of an early 1990’s America's Cup yacht, manufactured by KYOSHO and distributed in kit form through hobby and Internet stores worldwide.

The high quality kit is designed with an excellent instruction manual, for simple home assembly without special tools. The finished boat "out-of-the-box" delivers excellent performance satisfying to novice and experienced skipper alike. The SeaWind Resource Center affords access to tips on building, tuning and sailing while also providing a communication center for skippers through its forums.

The boat itself is made of sturdy ABS plastic with aluminum spars, highly tooled metal and plastic parts and fittings. The kit is complete including sails but requires a two-channel transmitter, receiver battery pack and sail servo and rudder servo. A few early kits (SeaWind SE) were supplied with an alternative fiberglass hull, and sale of these kits has been discontinued. The kit may now be purchased with a strong, lightweight carbon fiber hull option, (SeaWind CE).

Weight must be added to bring the carbon fiber hull up to the minimum weight of 6 ½ pounds per the class rules. The Class Rules tightly control the boat elements close to the kit to ensure new skippers their SeaWind will have equal competitive performance right out of the box. The class rules allow minor modifications to rigging (materials and adjustment methods) which facilitate sail adjustments and tuning.

The model has a design weakness in that the hatch cover is not watertight. The exceptional one design performance and quality of the SeaWind kit over shadow this defect and skippers have developed several methods under the class rules, which greatly improve the hatch water seal.
