Past Events CHRISTMAS AT HEADSTART 2005 The delighted looks on the faces of young children when they first spot the entrance of Santa Clause - what could be more beautiful than that?! And to provide a morning of Santa's magic to three and four year olds - what could be more fulfilling? That was the experience of the Kiwanis and Builders Club members as they provided their annual Christmas Party to the students at the Tarpon Springs Head Start Center on Martin Luther King Boulevard and Huey Avenue on the morning of December 13, 2005. Yes indeed! This kids at the Tarpon Springs Head Start center thrilled at Santa Claus's annual visit. Dressed as Santa, Kiwanis member Joe Varsalone handed and his helpers out wooden toy cars to the kids. The children also received new books, knit hats, T-shirts, crayons, coloring books, and activity books. During the celebration, members of the Kiwanis-sponsored Builders Club, from Palm Harbor Middle School, sang holiday songs to the children. The "Sawdust Engineers," the male group within the "Caring and Sharing" organization at Top of the World, in Clearwater, provided the wooden cars. The gals made T-shirts and knit hats. Hundreds of books were donated by the generous employees at HCA, and Publix Supermarkets donated coloring books, crayons, and activity books. Jamie Myers, from Smith Barney, also provided bags of Jelly Beans to be distributed at a later date. We owe a dept of gratitude to Director Charlotte Williams and her excellent staff for making the Palm Harbor Kiwanis and Builders Clubs members welcome to the facility and for their help in staging this event. Members from the Kiwanis Club of the Palm Harbor Area who participated in the event were: Joe Varsalone, Marty Bretthauer, Carolyn Webber, Chuck Winscott, John Burnham, and Alicia Phidd. Erica Madden (Vice President), Sara Adams (Secretary), and Sabrina Giunta were The Kiwanis-sponsored Builders Club participants. This is only one of several monthly visits by the Builders Club members and Kiwanians to the center. The teens provide their services to the Head Start kids every month, reading to them and playing with them. Additional celebrations include an annual Easter Egg Hunt and a book distribution in conjunction with Goodwill Industries. ![]() Santa & Child
