First Plane Hits Towers
At 8:45 a.m. EDT on the morning of September 11, 2001, the first of four hijacked planes, American Airlines Flight 11, crashes into the north tower of the World Trade Center. A service crew on the streets of Manhattan had a camera and captured this horrifying and historical event.

Firefighter missing and presumed dead.
Hundreds of the firefighters who entered the building or responded to the scene are missing and presumed dead. The day marked the largest loss of firefighters in a single incident in U.S. history.

Firefighter Mike Kehoe, from Staten Island, assists in the evacuation effort in a stairwell of Tower One. Fellow firefighter Bobby Annunziato at Engine 28 in Manhattan said Kehoe escaped before the towers collapsed.
