QUOTA INTERNATIONAL OF PLANTATION – Fall 2009 Newsletter By Elinor Adler, President

Quota Plantation has been having fun and working hard on service projects! Fourth of July FUNraiser The American Flag was blowing in the breeze, the aroma of hot dogs and burgers filled the air as they sizzled on the fired-up grill. Vivid fireworks were exploding in the sky over the lake as 15 Quota of Plantation members, friends and neighbors gathered at Elinor & Ray Adler’s home on the Fourth of July for an All-American Celebration! The party, also hosted by Kathy & Tom Zuendel, was full of fun surprises such as a “Best Dressed in Red, White and Blue” contest, and a very exciting game of Pictionary. The Club made $390 for Service Projects. End of Summer Party

There’s a sense of sadness when the summer comes to an end and the kids go back to school, but at an End of Summer party hosted by Marilyn and Jim Steinmuller on August 29th, you would never know fall was around the corner. On the dinner table, there were Jim’s grilled hot dogs and burgers, lasagna, salads, desserts to die for and fresh flower arrangements in blue and green sand buckets as decorations. Guests talked about their summer vacations and other summer memories. A tradition at the Steinmullers’ Quota Party is to play the dice game of LCR (Left-Center-Right). We had so much fun as the dice went from one end of the table to the other until there was a winner. Quota of Plantation was the real winner with over 40 in attendance, and $740 for the Club’s Operations!

At our October meeting Donna Wallace gave a wonderful and enlightening presentation “Can’t you hear?” The Impact of an Auditory Disability. We were all presented with 10 questions that were either true or false. The last question was easy to answer as true: Quota makes a difference in the lives of children with hearing loss!

Marlins Game for the Students! On September 11, 2009 twelve or more deaf or hard of hearing students from club member Karen Burnside’s class at Seminole Middle School in Plantation, along with husband Mike, Ron & Donna Wallace, Marilyn, Jim & Jonathan Steinmuller, and new member Maureen Boyd Clemente gathered at Landshark Stadium to watch the Marlins play the Nationals sponsored by Quota of Plantation. For about 45 minutes before the game the kids got to throw the football around and enjoy some pizza. During the 3rd inning they all enjoyed hot dogs and drinks. For some students it was their first professional baseball game. Although the Marlins lost, all had a fun time!

Women in Distress This year is the 11th Annual Women in Distress 5K SAFEWALK/RUN on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Markham Park in Sunrise, FL. For 4 of those 11 years Quota of Plantation has participated in this 5K Walk/Run that helps Women in Distress change lives and bring safety to victims of domestic violence. Last year Quota of Plantation through its members and contributors pledged and raised a total of $1,079! For the first time we had Quota International of Plantation printed on the back of the T-Shirts! As Kathy Zuendel leads Quota of Plantation in this project for the 5th year in a row, we again pledge to raise $1,000!

QUOTA BUDDIES

Everyone Needs a Buddy! Have you bonded with your Quota “Buddy” lately? Each Quota of Plantation member has a Buddy that was chosen at our Annual Planning and Budget Meeting in June. Each Club Member is having fun getting to know their Buddy and keeping in touch with each other in between monthly meetings. We may send our Buddy a card or an email to let our Buddy know we care when they are sick, going through a rough time, or just calling to say “Hi, I am thinking of you today!”

QUOTA NEW MEMBERS

Two New Members! Shannon Melanson-Giordano and Maureen Boyd Clemente joined Quota of Plantation in August! Shannon is a friend of Darlene Vlazny and Maureen is a friend of Donna Beutner. Both new members have lots of energy and jumped right into our heavy-duty Quota schedule! We are so glad they are members of our Club and hope that you get to meet them soon.
