P1000946.JPG.jpgWelcome to Quota of Boca/Delray!

The Quota International of Boca / Delray club was formed in 2008. Our local Quota club conducts service projects and holds fundraisers in support of various local non-profits. As one of our main service projects, we provide support to local non-profit AVDA (Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse), which has a shelter in our community housing over 75 women and children.

Our members provide mentoring and classes in life - and computer-skills to the women in the AVDA shelter. In addition, we provide refreshments and helping hands for the monthly birthday parties held for the young children also housed in these shelters.

Another of our service projects was a ‘Baby Shower’ collecting hundreds of dollars of baby supplies for the infants housed in the AVDA shelter.

In 2010 Quota of Boca/Delray awarded our first Dolores Taylor scholarship to a deserving, yet financially challenged, young woman heading off to college -- Shekinah Ellis. In 2011 we were proud to add another deserving young lady to our scholarship recipient list -- Maria Olmos.

For all our work with disadvantaged women and children this year, Quota of Boca/Delray was awarded Quota International’s prestigious Beatriz Scoop Award two years in a row.

Our members embrace the opportunity to foster friendships while making a difference in our community.

Each month we hold a dinner meeting where members plan our service projects and fundraisers, enjoy a meal, and have fun while socializing with each other.

Happenings

Heart of a Woman Event

AVDA (Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse) held its annual Heart of a Women Luncheon on Thursday, February 2 at Broken Sound Country Club. Quota International of Boca Delray was out in full force to support this event; purchasing tickets to attend the luncheon, working the event at the Silent Auction and Raffle tables and donating over $500 in baby items and Quota Bears! Quota was very well represented by Paz Olmos, Bit Shaw, Patti Stone, Debby Allen, Debby Gibson, Vickie Joh, Sharon Dobbs, Chris Golia and Geri Kearns.

QI Boca Delray’s generous donation was incentive for others to donate dollars at the Kid’s Corner featured at the event, so that the shelter can purchase more new baby items, including diapers, and sponsoring a pizza party for the children at the shelter.

The event was a huge success for AVDA, with over 300 supporters in attendance and culminated with featured speaker Beth Holloway, who gave a moving speech regarding her personal tragedy involving her daughter Natalee who disappeared in Aruba while on a class trip. Beth, in her continued effort to remember her daughter, has started MAYDAY 360 which is a website devoted to travelers outside of the US in need of support in case of a crime. She also meets with high school and college students to warn them about issues that could arise while traveling.

This was the 5th HOW luncheon which is the largest fundraiser for AVDA. It was a pleasure to be a part of the day and it gave our group inspiration for the upcoming Kentucky Derby on May 5th.

Success at our Kentucky Derby Fundraiser

What a fantastic event -- our first Kentucky Derby Fundraiser exceeded all our expectations! The weather was perfect, the ambience at the Boca Greens Country Club was inviting, the food was divine and ample, the race was... well it only lasted a couple of seconds, but fun was had by all!

We were able to raise a considerable amount of funds for the many service projects supported by us including the Dolores Taylor Scholarship, AVDA (Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse) and the Forgotten Solders.
