George .. heading for the water

Hello,and Welcome to our Website...

To those of you who wish to learn more about radio controlled sailing, racing, and about our organization, Royal Highlands R/C Model Yacht Club (RHMYC), you have come to the right place.
Our regular sailing location is at the South end of Royal Lake at the Royal Highlands community in Leesburg, Florida. We sail every Monday and Thurday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm most of the year. Our summer schedule, June 1 until September 30, we sail mornings from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.

RHMYC is a registered American Model Yachting Association club (#249), located in AMYA Region 3, which encompasses the Southeastern US.

All Royal Highlands residents are more than welcome to join us at a regular Club Sail. One of our sailors will be happy to let you take the controls of a yacht so you can experience the fun and excitement of radio controlled sailing.

We have moved under the trees for the summer

Looks like a race going on!!

Come Join Us...
To start sailing is relatively inexpensive if you build you own yacht, purchase a used yacht, or buy a kit and build it yourself for a reasonable cost.

Our club sails several classes. For details about each of the classes, click on it in the "Links section" to the left.

Two US 12's -One Soling and One "Footy"

The Soling One Meter Class; which is a yacht measuring 39 inches in length, with 600 square inches of sail area, and weighing 10 pounds. The boat design is based on the full-size Olympic Soling. As with its full-size original, it is a "one-design" class, and allows few variations, making it an ideal boat for the beginner R/C modeler or sailor. But don't let that fool you - these boats are fun, fast and maneuverable enough to delight experienced R/C sailors as well.

Our second largest fleet of yachts is the US12, a beautiful full keel model yacht similar to an old America's cup 12 meter design. The US12 radio control model yacht is 46 inches in length with an 8 inch draft and a 16 pound minimum weight. Its size makes the boat easy to transport in a car and a nice size to handle. The boat carries a rig of 714 sq. inches of sail area with a 55 inch hoist.

We also have a fleet of Fairwind class yachts. This boat is 35" long and weights 8 pounds. The Fairwind One Design class is fashioned after IOR offshore racing yacht designs of the 1980s and 1990s. The Fairwind is available in kit form in most hobby stores and from several Internet hobby supply sources. The kit is easy to put together and quite inexpensive.

We have two new little boats in the "Footy" class.

There are classes of R/C boats to please anyone. Sizes range from the 95" long J Boat to the newest AMYA class the 12" long Footy. Please come down to Royal Lake and get to know our members, sail our boats and become familiar with the sport of radio controlled sailing.

We hope to see you soon!
