WHAT IS KIWANIS?

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. There are over 600,000 Kiwanis members in 94 countries in North America, Asia/Pacific, Europe, Latin America and Africa.

Kiwanis was founded in Detroit, Michigan, on January 21, 1915 and celebrated its 90th birthday on January 21, 2005.

HOW IS KIWANIS ORGANIZED & WHAT IS SAFETY HARBOR KIWANIS?

The Kiwanis clubs in the United States are organized in districts. Each district is made up of divisions. Each division consists of numerous individual Kiwanis clubs.

Safety Harbor is in Division 12 of the Florida District. There are 9 different clubs in Division 12. The geographic area of this division is Northern Pinellas and Pasco Counties.

• Honor a Student of the Month from Safety Harbor Elementary and Middle Schools
• Sponsor Doorways Scholarships (Invested approximately $75,000 in this educational program in a total of 27 full scholarships.)
• Assist in sponsoring Graduation Night party for Countryside High School graduates.
• Sponsor the Kiwanis Key Club at Clearwater Central Cahtolic High School.
• Present gifts and food for needy children at Christmas.
• Assist both Boy and Girl Scouts, upon request.
• Support the computer application & job skills class at Safety Harbor Middle School.
• Support Special Olympics at Safety Harbor Middle School.
• Purchased lighting fixtures and built entry way for Safety Harbor Museum.
• Sponsored Reading Program and donated books to Safety Harbor Elementary School.
• Support the Safety Harbor Regional Museum of History monetarily and with volunteer hours.
• Sponsor Sunrise Easter Service at City Marina.
• Read to Y.W.C.A. pre-schoolers and donate books to their library.
• Sponsor City of Safety Harbor recreational programs.
• Help finance “Paint Your Heart Out” program in Safety Harbor.
• Donate money and items to Kimberly Home.
• Donated money to Safety Harbor Elementary School for their 75th anniversary celebration.
• Provide dictionaries to third graders
• cleaning of streets, safety walk to school, backpacks,
• food and assistance to the Neighborhood Family center
• Mentoring of students
• senior dining through Meals on Wheels
• Financially support the Mayor’s breakfast each year. The proceeds are used for holiday food and gift baskets.
• Donate T-shirts to the Safety Harbor Middle School track teams and indoor soccer teams.
• Interesting and informative programs each week.
• Respond IMMEDIATELY to a wide variety of special needs brought to our attention.

HOW DO WE RAISE FUNDS?

Our club has two major fund raising projects each year, the Arts and Crafts Show held in May and December on Main Street in downtown Safety Harbor.

At each show a Pancake Breakfast is also served from 8AM to 11AM at the Rigsby Center, 605 2nd Street North. Everyone is encouraged to enjoy the $4 breakfast.

• Join the Club and lend your enthusiasm and service
• Attend the two Arts & Crafts Shows
• Visit the food court and enjoy our famous homemade Sloppy Joe’s, made-to-order Pizza, Hot Dogs and Snow Cones
• Buy Tickets for the Pancake Breakfast

WHY SHOULD I JOIN OUR KIWANIS CLUB?

Safety Harbor Kiwanis is rich in a tradition of service to our community. This club has served Safety Harbor since it was chartered in May, 1979, and continues to lead in active and meaningful service.

Each member is afforded the opportunity to make lasting friendships and business associations while serving the community.

We enjoy fun and fellowship while fostering our rich tradition of community service.

HOW DO I JOIN?

• Attend any weekly Wednesday breakfast meeting
• Ask any member of Safety Harbor Kiwanis
• Complete a Kiwanis membership application
