IT’S IN THE BAG!

I have been a racing member of our club for `14 years now and have built 2 Solings and 2 One Meters. Both Solings and 1 One Meter are now history. All along the way, I was continually repairing and correcting problems. At my age I am no longer interested in building or repairing. However, I have not lost my zeal for competitive racing. I would like to have a more competitive chance than I have against the super $1,000 models that exist in the club today. I feel there has to be other members who share these sentiments.

Recently I became enamored with the R. C. Laser. It was featured in the 2008 Winter Model Racing magazine. This boat meets all the criteria above and is a sound design. There are over 8,000 boats in the U.S. There is one manufacturer of the boat and one for its’ offical sails. So all boats are exactly the same and the playing field is level. There are no special tuning requirements. It takes only 3 minutes out of the case and into the water.

I would like our club to give consideration to adding this design to our fleet; I realize we could not race Saturday morning but the afternoon and other days are available. Lets take a look at some of the features.

1- Simple one sail rig with no stays. The mast drops in a hole in the deck. The sail slides over the mast

2- Only two lines to secure. The sail out haul and the sheet.

3- The rudder snaps in place and the keel is secured by a fitting. No tools required.

4- Hull is molded of one piece with a water proof compartment in the deck for electronics which are mounted.

5- Hull material is polypropylene indestructible on the water. (no more leaks)

6- The authorized sail are one panel, made to one plan by one mfg. They wear like iron, will not tear, loose their shape or mildew. There are 3 sizes A rig for winds to 8mph, B rig for winds to 20 mph, and C for winds over 20 mph.

All in all the R. C. Laser is unlike any other boat in the world. It meets all the criteria that I have been looking for.

I have copies of the article if you want more data.

The boat is now in hand and I will be bringing it to the pond for you to see.
