Welcome to the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary Foundation, Inc. Nature Park

The Suncoast Primate Sanctuary Foundation, Inc. Nature Park Division is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation in the state of Florida and is run entirely by volunteers. All donations to the Sanctuary are fully tax deductible. All monetary gifts provide funds for animal care, rehabilitation of local wildlife and equipment and supplies to maintain the Nature Park area. At this time the Sanctuary receives no local, state or federal income and relies entirely upon the generosity of business people and concerned private citizens like you! The Nature Park is located at 4600 Alt. 19 in Palm Harbor, Florida just south of Tarpon Springs. The Nature Park is a great way to enjoy the outdoors while supporting a worthwhile cause. The facility presents educational seminars, provides an area for picnics, birthday parties, or other special events.

PLEASE GO TO IGIVE.COM AND SIGN UP TO USE YOUR ONLINE PURCHASES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO HELP THE ANIMALS. IGIVESEARCH.COM WILL PAY THE SANCTUARY 2 CENTS FOR EVERY INTERNET SEARCH YOU MAKE. WE NOW RECEIVE A SMALL CHECK OCCASIONALLY, BUT WE CAN DO BETTER. THANK YOU FOR HELPING THE ANIMALS.

Front of Gorilla Show Book

BIG NEWS! COPIES OF THE HISTORY OF THE NOELL'S ARK GORILLA SHOW WRITTEN BY ANNA MAE NOELL ARE NOW AVAILABLE FOR ONLY $50 picked up at the sanctuary! THESE ARE EXACT COPIES OF THE ORIGINAL BOOK.

Bill and Tracy Miller, pictured above with Joey the alligator and Santana the Macaw, chose to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary with the animals on Thursday, November 6. They visited some the animal residents 20 years ago when the animals were owned by the Chimp Farm and wanted to visit to see how their old friends were getting along. They stated that their "Visit was awesome and much different than before. It is more educational. Our area needs for everyone to have an opportunity to visit a place like this." Bill is a Largo fireman and Tracy is a Largo Police dispatcher.

John and his Grandma

John Holian last visited the sanctuary animals when he was 10 years old and his Grandmother was 61. That was 30 years ago! Here is what he said about his experience: "My Grandma and I recently toured the new and much improved facility (after a 30 year absence). We had last visited, when it was still referred to as "The Chimp Farm". Back then, the cages were smaller, dirtier, and signs warned to beware of "monkey missiles". I am now 40 years old and my Grandma turned 91, and we had a very enjoyable time. Thanks for the new memories and the remembrance of my childhood. Your hard work and effort on the new space shows your dedication to these animals. Best of luck to you all and keep up the good work. John is now a Customer Service Manager for Prospect Products in Franklin Park, Ill..

Please look at the toys inside the monkeys' cages. If you have any of these toys at home or anything similar that your children have outgrown, please bring them to donate to the animals. They are always in need of playthings and are very rough with them. The animals can ONLY have the type of toys you see in the enclosures. We remove them as they get chewed and dirty so the animals would appreciate anything you bring. Just leave them at the gate if the sanctuary is not open or with the gate personnel during open hours. The animals say, "THANK YOU!"

PLEASE CHECK MAIN WEB SITE IF YOU WISH TO MAKE DONATIONS DIRECTLY TO COMPANIES PROVIDING SERVICES AND PRODUCTS TO THE ANIMALS.

An out-of-state friend has set up a store for the Nature Park with donation proceeds going to benefit the animals of Suncoast Primate Sanctuary Foundation, Inc. PLEASE CLICK ON LINK TO LEFT TO SEE THESE GREAT PRODUCTS! Please visit the link and view all the products available. There are shirts, mugs, clocks, tiles, totes and other useful items with primates and other animals pictured on them. Our friend, Loraine, has traveled the country taking photos of wildlife, including primates, and has used them on items at no cost to us.

THANK YOU to all community members that have purchased pine trees and poinsettias to benefit the sanctuary. The project was a great success and we look forward to serving you again next year.

Bob accepts check from Andy

Andy Vasara presents Baby Bob a check for $500 while he sells poinsettias. MetLife Foundation Volunteer Ventures Program's Andy Vasara presented a $500 check to the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary on December 5. MetLife encourages its employees to get involved in community projects and Andy and his wife, Veikka submitted information for the sanctuary. The sanctuary provides homes for aged and displaced animals, mainly primates, to live out their lives in peace with dignity. In doing so it provides a unique opportunity for community members to volunteer to help the animals. Volunteers prepare food, maintain the premises, clean and entertain the animals. Area youth and adults that have court-appointed community service hours to fulfill are able to complete that commitment while they help the animals. Area schools and youth groups, such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, are permitted to do projects at the sanctuary. Volunteer information is available on the web site at www.SuncoastPrimate.org.

Lisa DeBartolo, representing the DeBartolo Family Foundation brought the DeBartolo Spirit of Humanity Award and a generous check for $10,000 to the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary Foundation, Inc. to a ceremony in the Nature Park on Monday, April 18. The award is given to worthy applicants in the Tampa Bay area. Our organization is not only developing the Nature Park area for members, but also supports the animal division and the wildlife division and has a program named the David Leslie Juvenile Program for youth in need of completing community service hours. The sanctuary also provides the community with unique volunteer experiences where the applicants can serve in any division doing manual or office work.

Primate Art is available at all Nature Park Member Events and at the front gate on Membership Days during regular operating hours. Donations for art vary by size. Please call or visit the sanctuary to discuss what is available. All proceeds are used in all areas of the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary Foundation, Inc. which includes the Nature Park and the Animal Division. These are examples and the variety are constantly changing. You may also request colors to match your decor.

December 16 volunteers sponsored Pet Day to show household pets and how to keep them happy and healthy. Volunteer Karelyn Paddock organized the fundraising event and brought her cat, 2 ferrets, and guinea pig. Other animals shown by volunteers were tortoises, an alligator, an iguana and a great dane.

WALK A MILE FOR A MONKEY EVENT

Walkers taking a break at Wall Springs Park.

The 3rd Annual Walk a Mile was great fun. The turnout was not as big as last year, but we had a great time. The walkers donated $25 for the walk, gathered donations from friends and received a Suncoast Primate Sanctuary t-shirt. Please try to watch our website and join us for our 4th year in 2007.

EASTER EGG HUNT Our Easter Egg Hunt fundraiser on April 15 was a HUGE success! We had over 50 children filling their baskets with eggs. Our facepainter was an event in herself as she turned the children into walking artwork. Our Easter Gorilla passed out monkey suckers and got her picture taken with lots of guests. Keep an eye out for next year's bigger and better event. Thanks to all that attended.

Saturday, April 23, the Nature Park division celebrated Earth Day by planting two beautiful trees, valued at $85 each. The bald cypress and elm trees were donated by the GARDEN ROOM NURSERY on Alt. Hwy. 19 in Palm Harbor.

Several children decorated cups and planted flower seeds to take home.

Drum music livened the park as a group played several different types of drums for the visitors to enjoy.

Ryan's Butterfly Garden
Ryan Wells, installed a butterfly garden complete with sprinkler system and stepping stones as his Eagle Scout Project for the Boy Scouts of America in 2004. A plaque commemorating his gift is permanently placed at the site. The sanctuary volunteers are saddened by the tragic passing of Ryan in a recent automobile accident. The garden that was designed by Ryan will continue to be a place of reflection and meditation and a living memorial to a fine young man. His energy and vitality will be remembered as visitors enjoy the colorful blossoms here below and the fluttering wings overhead.

Ryan's mother will be painting a mural on the south side of the Great Ape Building overlooking the garden in the very near future.

  Welcome ALL Visitors!
Volunteers and members are excited as we watch the tortoises roam around their new enclosure contructed by Block Buster Contractors. It measures about 25x30 feet surrounded by a beautiful block wall. Four Yellow Foot tortoises call this their home now. Their house, cement pond and plantings are completed with help from Starbucks Coffee.

Nature Park Plantings
Our volunteer and master gardener, Mindy Bickey has donated and placed many of the plants you will see at the park. Most of the banana trees were transplanted from other sites. Some of them are already producing small fruits. The new triangle palms were donated and planted by Mindy. Nature Park members are encouraged to bring exotic plants for Mindy to add to the beds.
