MARDI GRAS
Mardi Gras 2008 was held on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at the Fort Pierce Elk's Lodge. There were 128 Red Hatters attending from the following chapters: Bodacious Babes, Boop-Oop-A-Doop Girls, Classy Red Foxes, Crimson Chapelere, Dazzling Dames in Red, Foxy Red Hatters, Friend to the End, Glad Hatters of Vero, High Point Red Hatters, Hurricane Hatters, Lucie Goosies, Pampered Pack of Peacocks, Pizazzy Pineapples, Rebels with Hattitude, Red Bonnet Belles, Red Hattitudes of PLV, Red Hot Flashers, Scarlet Divas, Scarlet Vamps, Shady Ladies, Treasure Coast Ladies with Hattitude, and Treasure Coast Ruby Red Jewels. Our Mask/Costume Winners were: Lynn Krauthamer of the Lucie Goosies, Jean Jane Althoff of the Pizazzy Pineapples and Bobbi McHugh of the Red Bonnet Belles. Our Red Hat Split Winners were: Pam Waddell of the Glad Hatters of Vero, Claudia Ellis of the BoopOopADoop Girls and Marie Campano of the Hurricane Hatters.
MARDI GRAS PARADE
Jazz week was kicked off with a Fantastic parade held on Saturday February 2, 2008 in Historical downtown Ft. Pierce. The day was perfect!
Rosa Capella Red Hat Chapter arrived to the parade riding on a
beautiful float covered with red and purple. The Rosa Capellas were enthusiastic as they greeted the crowd and wished everyone "Happy Mardi Gras." On the back of a shiny black convertible was a huge Red Hat trimmed with a big Purple bow!
The Red Hat Tomatoes had Red and Purple banners hung from the sides of Queen Mum Dorothy Puntino's Toyota pick-up. Queen Dorothy walked along side handing out beads and stuffed toys to children. Four Red Hat Tomatoes rode in Charlotte McIntosh's School Bus Yellow BMW convertible. The Tomatoes threw beads and stuffed toys as they yelled "Happy Mardi Gras!"
As the parade wound its way to the Ft. Pierce marina, Jazz music could be heard for blocks! The smell of BBQ, cotton candy and spices hung in the air to tempt everyone's taste buds! Vendors sold masks, hats and Mardi Gras trinkets. Face painters turned timid children into lions,tigers, Batman and butterflies.
Ellen Morrone and Dorothy Puntino worked as volunteers for the Jazz Society until 10 pm. As the tired and happy Hatters left the marina,Jazz music reminding them to dream of Mardi Gras 2009 in Ft. Pierce.
RED HAT TEA The Harbor Lites at Harbor Place in Port Saint Lucie sponsored a Red Hat Tea on February 19, 2008 from 11:30am til 1pm. There were approximately 100 Red Hatters in attendance.
DIVA DUCK The Lucie Goosies sponsored a Bus Trip from Port Saint Lucie, down to City Place in West Palm Beach to Board Diva Duck for a 75 minute tour on land and water. Afterwards we all had lunch and had time for shopping. Attending were: Lake Charles Classy Redkettes, Classy Red Foxes, Dolphinette Divas, Dazzling Dames in Red and the Lucie Goosies.
