Okay, so I've been meaning to write a review for the new album for awhile now so here we go. The song titles, lyrics and album info can all be found below so I'll skip all that and get straight to the bottom line: Is the album any good? The answer is a whole hearted "Hell yes". Is it different? Very much so. Is it awsome from start to finish? Nope. Some of the songs get on my nerves. The main complaint you'll here from most people is "that damn snare drum" and yes, it probably is the worst part of the album but it's not nearly as bad as most people would have you believe. In parts, it even works. The album defintely did what the set out to do, it's raw, powerful and LOUD. You won't believe the tempo of this album, it doesn't slow down much from start to finish and in an album that has no track under 5 minutes, that's impressive. I love the writing, lyrically this might be one of their best albums of all time. The best advise I can give you about this album is this: Don't judge it until you've blared it in your car down the highway. Listen to every song twice and then make a judgment.

Summer Sanitarium:

The concert was AMAZING. I don't think anyone puts on a show like Metallica. My only complaint on the day was what on earth made them choose the opening acts? I'm not a Limp Bizkit, or however he spells that, fan but I understand that alot of people are. Linkin Park I actually like and they certainly put on a great show. What I really don't understand is the inclusion of Mudvain (sp?) and Deftones. Both bands stunck the place up. I mean BAD. I enjoy heavy music as much as the next heavy metal thrasher but damn, these people just got on stage and screamed for a little while. Bad attitudes, no energy and crappy music. I wanted to just throw something at them.
As a member of the Metallica fan club, I had access to an air conditioned room inside for just us members that was pretty cool. We sat out the majority of deftones and Limp in there.
Anyway, Metallica hit the stage and the place went NUTS. The new bassist is a trip, he has great energy. The stage setup was impressive but they could play anywhere and still bring down the place. The set list was filled with old school loudness with some new stuff mixed in. One of the most amusing things was when Kirk sat down at the drum set and belted out a few beats and Lars bent over and plucked out the opening rift to "Nothing else matters". Very cool.
