What is Titusville MOPS?

Titusville MOPS Steering Team 2008 - 2009

Titusville MOPS exists to equip, nurture and support expecting moms through moms with children of Kindergarten age in becoming the best moms they can be. Join other mothers in your community for mornings of great conversation, creative activities and special guest speakers. Playdates, evenings out and special events are scheduled throughout the year. Meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month, September through May, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Loving, age-appropriate childcare is always provided. While there is a $5.00 per meeting fee to offset childcare costs, scholarships are ALWAYS available and are a single telephone call or e-mail away! Meetings are held in the Wesley Fellowship Hall of Indian River City United Methodist Church at 1355 Cheney Highway in Titusville, Florida. All mothers are welcome, regardless of religious affiliation. Please contact Linda Benson, Titusville MOPS' Coordinator, at 321-383-8293 or momof3sisters@yahoo.com to begin your MOPS' experience!

Registration for Spring Study is Now Open!

I am very much looking forward to the Titusville MOPS' 2010 Spring Semester. There is so much that is new and exciting ahead -- I look forward to sharing this journey with each of you.

One of the many highlights of the Titusville MOPS' Spring Semester will be our Spring Study. The title of this study is "I Second that Emotion: Untangling our Zany Emotions" by Best-Selling Author and Women of Faith Speaker, Patsy Clairmont. The book includes its own DVD and Study Guide with each copy.

Our study will begin on Wednesday, January 27th and will conclude in April. We will break for school holidays. Our meetings begin at 9:30 and end at 11:30. Childcare drop-off begins at 9:15.

"We women are wonderfully made, but, boy, we sure are emotionally intricate. With her trademark conversational style and wit, Patsy Clairmont tackles a subject most women feel at a loss to approach -- their feelings.

I Second That Emotion takes one of Patsy's most popular topics at the Women of Faith conferences and shows how you can deal with a turbulent emotional life.

I Second That Emotion pulls some of our emotions out to examine them individually. Think of this book, study guide, and DVD as a spa-a place to be refreshed, revived, and even repaired a little. Don't allow life to push your emotional buttons until you have an emotional meltdown. Instead, let God help you get untangled."

We will meet in the Wesley Fellowship Hall of Indian River City United Methodist Church at 1355 Cheney Highway in Titusville. This study is open to all women. Childcare is provided at no cost to you with advance registration.

The cost of the book is approximately $13.00 but scholarships are available for the asking. There is no additional cost for this study.

Please come and join other women in the community for friendship, fellowship and connection as we enjoy this time together.

Childcare is available in an age-appropriate setting but spaces are limited. If you are interested in attending this study, you are encouraged to "RSVP" at an early opportunity so appropriate arrangements can be made.

An excerpt from our new study book follows:

Pierced Years

In the midst of winter, I finally realized within me that there was an invincible summer.

Albert Camus

If there's a season within me, as Albert Camus's quote suggests, I know my season would have to be a blustery one. It is my way to do too much and to say to much. Quite honestly it is more natural for me to bluster about in a flurry of activity or talk up a full-fledged whirlwind than to "Be still and know . . . " I think that's because if I am quiet too long and listen carefully to the still small voice within I will have to own my behavior and I will "know" I will need to change. Change requires much, is scary and is about as appealing to me as sushi. Trust me, I don't do raw. Yet I long to be . . . sweeter, deeper, kinder and less aware of my deficiencies. Don't you?

It is not a mystery that we all at some point or other feel like our hearts have a hole in them where our confidence regularly seeps out. Because of sin, no one escapes the "woe is me" syndrome. Gratefully in this chapter, Good News is ahead.

Excerpt concludes . . .

Together on Planet Mom!

Siberia: How it is Possible to Feel Lonely as a Mom even in the Center of a Crowd

The year begins anew. Fresh air. Fresh sunshine. New resolutions. Closets to be cleaned. Drawers to be straightened. Habits to begin. Habits to let go.

I find the beginning of a new year a wonderful time to take stock. To look around my life and take honest note as to what needs to be addressed, what needs to be released and what needs to be forgiven. Those loose ends? Time to wrap them up or to say goodbye.

A new year is a gift. It is a time to bring new perspective into our world. It is time to make those lists or crumple up the ones from last year that simply didn't get done.

The older I get, the more comfortable I become in knowing that I will not get everything done on every one of my lists. It is simply impossible. As I get older, I also recognize that other people, consciously or unconsciously, make lists for you as well. Whether they are teachers, co-workers, neighbors, relatives or even friends, sometimes the lists developed for us by others can be the most difficult to check off.

It is that time of year again. A time to shake off the cobwebs, to drink in the crisp, cool air and welcome the fresh start! That bright sunshine shining down on us? Time to throw open those doors on all those dank, dark places and welcome that sunshine into each and every crevice! A new year is a gift. A shiny, happy, brand-new gift. And in that pretty gift bag? Please save room for a healthy dose of terrific relationships with your fellow moms! Welcome, welcome. Welcome to 2010!

Sincerely yours,

Linda Benson
