| About Troop 849
GENERAL INFORMATION
BSA Troop 849 was chartered on October 1, 1985. Troop 849 meets on Thursday evenings from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM at Annunciation Catholic Church in the Fireplace Room. Although chartered by Annunciation, our troop has members from many different cultural backgrounds and religions. Troop 849 has earned the Quality Unit Award every year since it's inception. Troop 849 is EXTREMELY proud of the young men who have earned the rank of Eagle Scout over the years. Take a look at the tribute page. ACTIVITIES
Along with our weekly meetings, Troop 849 boasts an extremely active schedule. CAMPING: Troop 849 camps at least once a month, including a yearly week long summer camp. In 2007, stayed local at Central Florida Council's Camp La-No-Che. This year, we are going to Camp Rainey Mountain, GA. in June. We offer a diverse camping experience that will challenge both the new and veteran Scout. Some of the places we've traveled to over the years: Floria Everglades, Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia, Camp Daniel Boone in NC, Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa, Fantasy of Flight, Camp Tanah Keeta in Tequesta, FL, Camp Flaming Arrow in Lake Wales, Camp Blue Heron in Riceboro, GA and USS Yorktown in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Our Scouts decide where they want to camp at our yearly planning meeting. HIGH ADVENTURE: Along with troop camping, Troop 849 also stages High Adventure trips for our older Scouts. We have traveled to Philmont Scout Ranch several times along with Florida Sea Base. There are also High Adventure opportunities every year at summer camp. This past year the older Scouts had 1 crew going to Philmont and 2 crews going to Florida Sea Base. COMMUNITY SERVICE
We believe that service to the community is a very important part of Scouting. Troop 849 participates in many service projects, both as Eagle Service Projects and troop activities. We have participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life over the past few years and have raised over $3500.00 for the organization. We plan on participating again this year and hope to make an even larger contribution. LEADERSHIP
Although Troop 849 is a boy run unit, adult leaders are needed for guidance and mentoring. Troop 849 is extremely proud of our many active and dedicated adult leaders. Many of our leaders participated in Scouting as youths, including several who reached the Eagle Rank, and most have been adult leaders throughout thier son's Scouting careers. The backgrounds and experience of our leaders ensure a well rounded program. The number of leaders who are willing to give up personal time for summer camp attendance astounds every Camp Director we talk with. | |||||||||||||||||
