Community Concerns Programs Having concern for bettering our community, looking for ways to give back and how our children can learn from it.
Collecting Pop Tabs is a great way to teach kids about philanthropy and the importance of recycling, and raise funds to help children and their families at the same time. The program is an easy way for people of all ages to Support RMHC and know they are making a difference for families and children. We participate in the program by publicizing to the students, families, and staff of WNPS, providing containers and collecting the tabs. We weigh the pop tabs, record the results and reward the grade level winners and a Grand Prize Winner. The Pop Tabs are then delivered to the Ronald McDOnald House Charities of Northwest Florida in Pensacola. After the tabs are delivered, the local RMHC Chapter brings the collection to local recycling centers, where they are weighed to determine their value. The recycling center then sends the local RMHC Chapter a check for the total value. Time Frame: This program starts in November about 2 weeks before the fall break. We arrange for pick up or delivery of the items during Fall Break. PENNY DRIVE The Penny Drive is not only a yearly contest and tradition, but a way to raise money for the West Navarre Primary School Children in Need fund. This fund is utilized by the WNPS guidance office to assist the families of WNPS students who find themsselves in financial need from time to time. We conduct this program by publicizing the collection to the students, families, and staff. We provide collection containers for the pennies. We collect and weigh pennies and recors the results. We then deliver the pennies to the bank to have them counted. We celebrate the results with a picture, results posters, and parties to the grade level winners. This is a great opportunity to give the children the chance to think about others who may be in need. Time Frame This collection is done in January for 2 weeks with the last day of collection coinciding with the 100th Day Of School Celebration.
