Our School Our History
30th Avenue Preschool was originally an elementary school. It was built in the southern area of Columbus known as Kendrick Quarters. Classes were first held in the spring of 1940, and by the end of the 1999-2000 school year the doors of 30th Avenue Elementary School were slated to be closed forever due to 30th Avenue and Winterfield Elementary merging to form the new Martin Luther King (MLK) Elementary. However, visionaries from the Pre-K and STEPS programs had other ideas. With a little paint and a lot of elbow grease, 30th Avenue Preschool opened in the fall of 2000. For the past several years, we have served the needs of both regular education and special needs students and have provided interventions ranging from special instruction to various therapies, including speech, as well as occupational and physical therapy.
One of the best features of 30th Avenue Preschool is having everything at the pace and on the level of preschool children. Not only is the curriculum suited for their particular needs, even the furnishings are just the right fit. That way, we are better able to assist in "Beginning Bright Futures... Today"
Over the years we have been at 30th Avenue Preschool we have enjoyed many visitors, such as volunteer readers from our our Partners in Education (PIE), First Baptist Church, as well as many former students of 30th Avenue Elementary. If you're in the neighborhood, please stop by and say hello. A link at the bottom of our front page will help with directions or simply call our secretary at (706) 683-8863 and she'll be glad to give you directions.
