STEPS Program The STEPS (Special Training for Exceptional Preschool Students) Program is designed to meet the educational needs of preschool students with varying handicapping conditions. The STEPS Program serves students, 3-5 years-of-age, who qualify for special education services under Georgia regulations, as set out by IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act). Services available include classroom instruction, speech, occupational, and physical therapy. The STEPS program has five classes at 30th Avenue and frequently "shares" students with the Georgia Pre-K program in order to provide access and education with typical peers. Our students also participate in school programs/activities, and often join in field trips with the Pre-K program. Students meeting eligibility for the STEPS Program may also be served in one of five other locations throughout the school district. These classes are located at Blanchard Elementary, Brewer Elementary, Double Churches Elementary, Johnson Elementary, and Reese Road Elementary. With the STEPS Program, there is no gap between Early Intervention services and school-age placement. That way a student's develop can continue right on through their preschool years.
