steggie8.gifWelcome to 30th Avenue Preschool.
We would like to welcome you to our website. We are a unique facility in that one - we are home to "Steggie" the dinosaur who once lived downtown as part of Columbus' original museum location, then as part of Columbus State University's science department. We are also unique in that we are the only Muscogee County School District (MCSD) facility with only preschool-age students in their program.

30th Avenue houses three Georgia Lottery Pre-K classes, five STEPS (Special Training for Exceptional Preschool Students) Program classes, an Occupational and Physical therapy room, as well as offices for two School Psychologist who serve preschool students only, two itinerant teachers and their parapros, and two Speech-Language Pathologists. Mrs. Karen Wilson is the STEPS Program Coordinator, as well as our building supervisor.

We hope you enjoy looking around our site at all the great and fun happenings at 30th Avenue and we invite you to come by for a visit when you're "in the neighborhood".

Be There!

Be There is a parent involvement campaign to encourage more parents to become involved in their child's education.

PIE - Partners In Education

All MCSD schools are partners with at least one business and/or civic group in Columbus. The program provides additional human resources to each school in furthering the educational goals of the district.

First Baptist Church of Columbus became our partner during the 2001-2002 school year. Over the years, First Baptist Church has provided readers on a weekly basis, given each child a gift during the Christmas and Easter holidays and provided "goodies" for Teacher Appreciation Week.

An End-of-the-Year cookout has also been provided for the students and staff during the last week of school. Hotdogs, hamburgers and special treats were enjoyed by all.

The Gold Achievement Award has been given to First Baptist Church over the past several years, which has been much deserved for all they have done for the students and staff of 30th Avenue Preschool.

The beginning of the 2010-2011 school year brought another Partner-in-Education, the Kellogg Company.

Recently the students at 30th Avenue enjoyed one of the Kellogg employees who brought their therapy dog named Ballou. Ballou's owner talked about the kind of work Ballou does then she got to visit with the students in both the Pre-K and STEPS Programs.

Another Kellogg employee performed a dramatic reading and will be returning next year with his son to help "in the act".

The latest event involving our Kellogg voulunteers was our annual Easter egg hunt, where several of their volunteers stuffed and hid over 500 eggs!!

We are also anticipating a great Cinco de Mayo with employee volunteers coming to assist with the traditional breaking of the pinata.

Thanks to both First Baptist Church and Kellogg for a wonderful and fun-filled school year!!!

Let Us Introduce Ourselves

30th Avenue Preschool is very fortunate to have a collaboration of regular education and special education teachers and staff who work together to give all our preschoolers the best education possible. We strive to mainstream special needs students into the regular classroom, and show regular education students that all children are able to learn, just at a different pace or on a different level.

Below, as well as within the left column, you can click to find out more about our staff within the two programs that make up 30th Avenue Preschool. Also, be sure to take a look at our school pets under the "Preschool Pets" link.
