Blue_hills.jpgWelcome to our class site

Mrs. Barnes' Kindergarten Class  We are beginning our second semester of school and it's hard to believe that one-half of the school year has already flown by so quickly. It is amazing what the children have already learned thus far. Remember that both our roles are important to our children. You can help me by having your child prepared to learn everyday. Routines are very important at this time. Please make sure to set times for homework, bedtime, etc. so your child will be alert and ready to learn. This will be greatly appreciated. Please spend time reading with them and asking them what they are learning in school. I need to remind you of some important information. 1. Please check your child's folder nightly for pertinent information. Weekly newsletters, including homework, will be sent home on Monday. Please sign the conduct sheet on a daily basis. Sign and return it in the folder each day. 2. Please read at least 5 minutes each day with your child. Begin by reading the short book to them and then read it together. This will be very important in the success of your child this year. 3. Please study the letters/sight words each week with your child and practice/model for them the letters for the week, sight words, his/her name, and the days of the week, etc. 4. You can help your child by counting and identifying numbers. Also, work with your child by naming coins, telling the value of each, and addition/subtraction.

 Helps at Home
Jan.10-13,2012 1. Read nightly with your child and write a sentence about the story. Sign the reading log and return the book in the purple folder. 2. Please help your child to learn the letters/sight words that we are learning this week: funny, find, and has, and reviewing letter r. Practice recognizing the words and letters from the flashcards and talk about the sound each letter makes. 3.I have included in the homework folder a list of words that each student must know by the end of kindergarten. These will be sent as flashcards, a few at a time, to allow your child to learn them more easily by concentrating on them in smaller numbers. Feel free to work with your child on the word list as often as you can. 4.Talk with your child about chunk words. This week we are learning about words that end with -ob, such as rob, cob, and knob. 5.In Math we are working on money and addition. Thank you, Mrs. Barnes
