National Aviation Maintenance Technician Day One Step Closer to Reality

WASHINGTON, May 22, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --

Although it has long been recognized by those in the aviation maintenance industry, National Aviation Maintenance Technician Day is one step closer to being official after the U.S. House of Representative voted to support its establishment.

Under H. Res. 444, each May 24 will celebrate, honor and recognize the achievements of the Wright brothers’ first flight mechanic, Charles E. Taylor, and all certified aviation maintenance professionals who work tirelessly to ensure safety in the skies through passion and professionalism.

The resolution has the backing and support of the Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (PAMA).

“This is a great milestone for all aviation maintenance professionals,” Clark Gordon, PAMA Chairman, said. “It is an honor to know our Congressional House of Representatives recognizes our professionalism, hard work, unique skills and dedication to continued education so that others can rest assured they fly in safety with the best maintained aircraft in the world.”

Next, H. Res. 444 will be introduced to the U.S. Senate for review and possible vote and, if approved, will go to the President for signature.

PAMA solicits the aviation community’s continued support for National Aviation Maintenance Technician Day and requests everyone continue contacting their respective senators in Congress. “We are on the path to passing this resolution,” Gordon said. “PAMA will continue to lead the charge with the support of other organizations to lobby for the recognition of National Aviation Maintenance Technician Day nationwide with the passage of this bill in the Senate."

PAMA/SAE Institute Certification Program

PAMA/SAE Institute is developing a wide range of aviation maintenance and production certifications that cover a broad spectrum of career paths and provides a comprehensive career infrastructure within our profession. PAMA/SAE Institute certifications validate technical knowledge and skills and build upon FAA-established minimum standards of safety.

In job skills where no FAA certification standard exists, PAMA/SAE Institute establishes industry driven consensus standards for basic and advanced skills and specialties.

PAMA/SAE Institute certifications quantify knowledge at many levels of the aviation maintenance industry -- from essential core competencies for both FAA certificated and non-certificated technicians through highly skilled professional specialties. PAMA/SAE Institute certification is not to be confused with FAA Certification. Only the FAA can provide an individual with the authority to approve an aircraft for return to service following maintenance.

CERTIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

Aviation Maintenance Specialists (AMS):
Proven Core Technical Knowledge

This core certification enables non-FAA certificated technicians and interested non-maintenance aviation personnel to show proficiency in an critical body of knowledge. They distinguish themselves by demonstrating in-depth knowledge of a broad range of essential skills. Technical workers considering the pursuit of an aviation maintenance career, as well as all members of the aviation community, will be able to identify specific areas of expertise without first committing to the full FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certification. Once certified, the Aviation Maintenence Specialist-Technician will have a transportable credential recognized througout the industry. In addition, the AMS-T will also have the option of following a training path that leads to FAA certification or to further specialization.

Aviation Maintenance Engineer (AME):
Proven Advanced Technical Knowledge

This certification validates core knowledge for FAA certificated Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics. The Aviation Maintenance Engineer credential establishes the same AMS-T baseline knowledge, and recognizes their authority and privileges as equal with AMEs throughout the global airworthiness community. Further advancement quantifies individual excellence and ability on various aviation segments and aircraft platforms.

ABOUT THE TEST:
The PAMA/SAE Institute certification program is offered at a wide variety of Kryterion HOST Testing Centers in the Kryterion network throughout the country. Study guides, handbooks, and online practice tests are available now.
