Students have an assignment book that I gave them at the beginning of the year. Please go over the homework with your child. If you need me to start initialing the book I will. Homework is not being done! If you would like a conference regarding your child's report card please contact me. Together we can get your child back on track! Also, please have your child read and study their multiplication and division facts every night!!!!

    Spelling Homework

The Spelling words are literature-based words. This nine weeks your child will be given a sheet that must be completed by Friday. On the sheet is their is a spot for each word, definition (restated in the student's own words), Synonym, and a sentence. The paper is due on Friday. Also, due to the low grades in spelling, I would reccommend the students writing the words several times. The test will contain spelling and fill in the blank. The fill in the blank allows the child to use context clues to determine meanings of the words. We will have a test on Friday. Homework will be due on Friday. Please have your child study each night.

    Classroom Management Procedures

I will use the following methods in managing my class:

Gaining Student Attention: Gaining the students’ attention is done by standing and walking around the room in close proximity to the students. If this attempt does not work, I will stop talking, talk to the student(s) privately, and implement the classroom discipline plans. The classroom discipline plan is posted in the classroom and given to the students.
Colson’s Lunch Bunch: This is a reward for individuals, who have been on-task, completing assignments, turning in work, and positive behavior. Each month the selected individuals can eat in the classroom and celebrate their excellent work.
Treat Box: Based on the students’ conduct grade, the students who have maintained 20 points for 2 weeks will be able to choose an item from my treat box.
Positive Notes Home: Notes will be sent home to celebrate any excellent behavior or conduct that goes beyond the normal requirements.

    Discipline Procedures

The goal of our classroom is to provide a safe, cooperative learning environment in which each student is able to achieve success without the intimidation or inference of other students. This is the same goal that is upheld by the whole school.
The consequences for breaking any of the school rules may include any of the following, usually, but not always, in order:
      1.Verbal warning
      2.Lose of conduct points
3.Action Plans that must be signed by parent or guardian
      4.Note home
      5.Parent phone call
6.After School Detention (30 minutes) for minor offenses- see student handbook/calendar for explanation- 24 hour notice will be given.
      7.Guidance referral
8.Office referral (fights & insubordination are automatically referred to the office.
Administrative detention, conference with counselor, parent conferences
For complete explanation see student handbook/ calendar & behavior guidelines.

    Homework and AR Requirements

      Homework Policy
Homework will be an essential part of the student’s successful learning experience and will be given two or four times per week. The homework will be graded and recorded according to the grading policy.
Homework will not be accepted late unless the student has an excused absence or extraordinary circumstances. Makeup work is the responsibility of my students. Students who are absent are responsible for checking this when they return. For longer absences, individual arrangements will be made.
Please do not ask me to make exceptions to this policy because it does not help your child develop healthy, responsible habits.
Classroom assignments will be posted on the board. Time to record assignments will be given at the end of the day. It is the students’ responsibility to write down the assignments not mine. Please go over the assignments at home and make sure all assignments are completed.
      AR Requirements
Students will be given a STAR Reading Test to establish reading level. You will receive a Parent Report. Your child will be assigned points that must be earned by the end of each nine weeks. Students must read every night for 30 minutes. Students are required to take AR tests over the books they have read.
